I am looking at buying our first sat nav and am looking for recommendations.
It would only be for occasional UK use and we would be looking at spending approx £100.

I guess TomTom is the way to go but am interested in opinions.

Thanks.

Garmin another.
Actually, Garmin Nuvi are always recommended by Which? Better performance, better value.
There's the Garmin 205WT at £80-ish and the 2200 at £85-ish,,- both more than adequate for your needs.
Afternoon.

As we're on the subject, what would be best to use across Europe? Do you generally have to pay for subscriptions for the maps etc?
Tam-Tam - v.cheap- but only covers Scotland
ab ed, i have a tom tom (me in built sat nav is useless at t=finding the end of my road) and i had to 'buy' a map for france and download it. it cost me £36.

i think some you can get with europe preloaded.
Thanks.
European mapping can be included for a little extra or can be added at a later date for most decent makes.
As it happens I bought a Garmin 205WT for my father a few years back - liked it so much I bought one for myself.

It came preloaded with European maps that were pretty up to date
I have a garmin Nuvi 1300 Bought from Halfords (see link below). Personally a simple, easy to use, widescreen satnav. I to am the printed map generation and wifey bought me this one in 2009. i feel lost without it now. when away on holiday we fancied a sunday roast, so went through the menu and found a lovely little carvery not that far away. Personally I feel its one of the best satnavs on the market.
