Anyone done any DIY on their helmet for anti-theft? My helmet hasn't got the pertinent hole & ring. I was thinking of boring a hole at the back and putting a ring through. AQny other ideas/tips? By the way, it's a Goldwing 1500SE. Thanks

I would not dream of putting a hole in my helmet, even the thought brings tears to my eyes.
^ LOL

How very rude :)
Won't 'boring a hole in the back' weaken the overall structure and invalidate any guarantee?

magicmerlin... it didn't bother Prince Albert...
You lock it thru the d-ring on the strap

or if a fullface then loop a chain /steel rope with a lock thru the opening
.
To drill into the helmet would weaken it.

Dangerous idea.
Dr filf may answer this later as hes a bikey type .

hth?
wouldn't a hole weaken the structure of the helmet - I thought you were supposed to get a new helmet if you damaged it in anyway?
Just asked my bikers.....no security locks for helmets & they say dont leave it as people pizz in them - not nice on head after that!
snap - took me longer to read and type than you chaps!!!
a round hole wouldn't weaken the helmet, but I still would not put a ring through the helmet to attach it to a bike, anything substantial enough to stop somebody stealing it would be a danger if you came off as it could catch on something.
would your helmet fit in a box on the back?

Well what do you do if you haven't got a d-ring? Of course any hole wold weaken the structure but I only mean a small hole. What do YOU do if not room in the box. Don't want to use heavy chains! Any constructive suggestions welcome! thanks.
take stuff out the box to make room

By the way, I'm not in the Uk and it's not so easy finding helmets with D-rings. hence, my tryng to find a solution.
do your straps have buckles - that might work?

To Albaqwerty: Though I think you're just trying to be funny, I need a serious answer. If I could empty the box, believe me I would...
I always kept my helmet with me - as Tambo says are you sure you want to leave the helmet with the bike anyway?

Thanks Carrot. but no they don't. I have several helmets but none with buckles.

Carrot: I usually do take my helmet with me if I'm on a recreational ride but sometimes it's just not possible when working. I also have a Tener and as that's only recreational, no problem. It's just with the GW.
