I had some people down from London for a meeting this week.

So I hire a meeting room at one of the hotels on the sea front, have them provide sandwiches and juices, etc.

And what happens?

"Oh, I'm dairy intolerant. I can't eat sandwiches with butter."

Seriously? I realise a dairy based diet might be hard for you to digest, but ... one round of sandwiches?

Just eat the f------ food!

If you were THAT dairy intolerant, you never have survived being a baby.

Islington has a lot to answer for!

We had a could staying with us....a retired Gynaecologist and his over powering wife.
Mrs sqad is a good cook but it was.....

He has a low fat diet and don,t forget five pieces of fruit.......FIVE....I said " not four or six?"

What difference would a long week end off one,s regime?

JJ..I agree with you.......a nation of boring hypochondriacs...........
so people should make themselves ill to please you? if you served me something with a sauce based around cooked tomatoes & chilli i wouldn't eat it. i'm not going through that pain just to make you happy,
McCluff.......the chances of you eating at the sqad.s is Nil........somI shouldn't worry too much about your "intolerances."
i was talking to jj, the chance of me wanting to eat at sqads is zero
Know the feeling. My daughter is so precious that we have to use a different spoon if we turn the roast potatoes after basting the chicken. She has her own vegetarian gravy as well, veggie cheese etc...
Lol @ Sqad thinking it's all about him....
Id be secretly pleased- the less butties they eat, the ore I can tupperware and take home :-)
ore?....More!
i know, the huge is the ego in that one :-D
I'm with you on this JJ; I used to cook in our village pub and was amazed by how pernickety some people can be. I'm old enough to remember rationing and food shortages. If it's there, eat it and be thankful, whatever it is, and be grateful you're not shivering and homeless in Nepal!
Rabet I still have my ration book!
I came from a household where I had to eat whatever was put in front of me, or else i would go hungry. I'll eat most things except gherkins & olives...they're the spawn of the devil...
Good for you, grasscarp; but you're not getting my bacon!
I have very little time for this nonsense, especially when it concerns picky, spoilt children and their over-indulgent mothers. When I was a boy, growing up in the 50's and 60's, I never heard of anybody who couldn't eat strawberries, peanut butter, and any vegetables whatsoever. We ate what was put in front of us or we were sent to bed hungry.

On the peanut allergy thing, I am quite prepared to accept that there are some kids who have a real problem, but I find the prospect of millions of kids suddenly having difficulties as counterintuitive. I know parents that won't give their children peanuts or anything that might have been associated with peanuts, like biscuits,"just in case" they might develop problems.

I have nieces and nephews that won't eat any fruit whatsoever ! If any of my brothers were to have started whining about not liking strawberries for tea on a Sunday when we were growing up, he would have been elbowed out of the way in micro seconds by the rest of us, to get his portion !

Those spoilt kids are going to grow up to be silly, spoilt adults, that will inflict their weird logic on their own kids.
Mikey....my nephew has PKU. You'd never know there was something wrong with him but too much protein can cause brain damage. He is on a very restricted diet and will be for the rest of his life. Some people then look at him like he, or his mother, are fussy foodies.
joggerjayne there is a HUGE difference between picky eaters and those that have genuine intolerance. Also some people develop dairy intolerance as adults so may I suggest you be a little more 'tolerant' of others medical conditions? A simple solution is to ask for a vegetable based spread for any sandwiches and it really surprises me you actually got real butter on catered food unless you specifically asked for it.
Or do as I do...

Slant your head sideways when told, make the appropriate noises like... "awww, really? Shame!"

Then dump the lot in a butty box and take home.
Retrochic:

\\\\Also some people develop dairy intolerance as adults so may I suggest you be a little more 'tolerant' of others medical conditions?\\\

Maybe! maybe! but we have entered an area of medical overdiagnosis and overtreatment and i feel that food intolerance may fall into that category....although realising that it does exist.

PKU (Phenylketonuria) is an in born error of metabolism with a proved scientific base and does not fall into the group of overdiagnosed conditions popularly called "food fads."
I'm with Boo.

""Slant your head sideways when told, make the appropriate noises like... "awww, really? Shame!""

Then point out they can buy their own sandwich "just down the road".
