Hi,
Does anyone know if it is normal for the ivtec engine to consume oil, requiring top ups every few thousand miles?
Normal use; 92000 miles on the clock; full Honda service history; no leaks anywhere; no blue smoke; wet black residue just inside the exhaust. Totally reliable otherwise.

Appreciate any help!

Thanks for your answer. Is your handbook for a Honda?
No a Hyundai but they are using out of date japanese engines
I have run a CRV for the past 6 years doing approx 10K per year. I have it serviced every 12 months. I have never had to top up the oil. Neither have a wet residue inside the exhaust, that seems to be the clue to your problem.

I previously had a Civic for 50k miles and never had to top up the oil on that one either. A mechanic once told me "the vtec engines are oil tight"

If its not burning or leaking. where is it going. Something wrong somewhere.
