Hi i am thinking of buying a Ford Ka 1998, it has done 60000 and everthing seems to be fine, but it says on the spec of this car that it has power steering but when driving it, it seemed very heavy

1.So do they have PAS?

2.If so what could this problem be?

1 They do now but I'm not sure they all did back in 1998.

2. If it does it could be as simple as low fluid, could be more serious.

Thanks i have been told it may be the power steering pump but i really cant find out wether or not it did have
To check if it has power steering (which was an option on early Ka's) look under the bonnet. The power steering reservoir is in the top left corner. It has a yellow cap on it with a steering wheel symbol on it.
To test if it is working, apply turning pressure to the steering wheel with the engine off.

Keep the pressure on and start the engine. Power steering will mean you suddenly have the pressure taken from you as the wheel turns.
I have looked at the picture of the engine bay and it doesnt have anything in top left hand corner so it may not have any PAS which would be good as it means nothings wrong with it

Thanks for your help guys
