2006 car should not need testing until 2009, when you tax your car you will not be asked for a current MOT certificate till it's three years old
It wasnt first registered abroad was it, making it more than 3 years old? Check the reistration documents.

there is nothing stopping you moting a car at anytime regardless of age. but you dont legally need to mot a new car until 3 years old. but if for talking sake you mot a 1 year old car then you must mot it every year thereafter.
Was it ever a taxi? as they need testing from 1 year old and it used to be once a car was tested it had to be tested every year after that but i could be wrong
