Hello,
I'm looking for people who might be interested in sharing their personal stories of being road users for a new BBC Documentary. I'm especially interested in people who own 4x4's in urban areas and feel that they are being unfairly targeted.

I have no great story but several points of view:-
Firstly in my opinion no one has proved definitively that global warming is man made.
Secondly if you are talking about a persons carbon footprint then whilst I drive a 4 wheel drive Jeep in Bristol I only average approximately 8000 miles per annum (how does that compere to someone doing 15,000 miles per annum in a 1600cc car) I only fly infrequently, I have never had any children, I do not have an automatic washing machine or dishwasher, I do not buy lots of clothes, electronic gadgets or other unnecessary consumer items, my house is reasonably well insulated, the heating is kept at the lower end of the scale in terms of temperature, I only light the room I am using, no TV.s etc are ever left on standby and never have been etc. etc. SO WHY SHOULD I BE CRITISICED FOR MY 4x4 WHEN NO DOUBT SOME OF THOSE COMPLAINING WILL HAVE A BIGGER OVERALL CARBON FOOTPRINT THAN ME EVEN THOUGH THEY WILL NOT BE DRIVING A 4x4 AND THINK THEY ARE HOLIER THAN THOU.

no , your spot on once the car hating nazis get rid of 4x4 they'll move onto other types of car , sports cars and prestige cars will be next , they want everyone to use the most unevolved and primitive form of "transport "a bicycle- well that and pub;lic transport are fine in a third world country but not in a industrialized nation like uk

i think the point youre missing dampdiver is that its irrelevant what someone else is doing/driving its about the fact that you choose a gas guzzling 4x4 which mile per mile puts out more harmfull emmisions than a 1ltr micra.
personally youd never price me out of my landcruiser, because its safer, however round town id be quite happy in a motorised toy car
so im all for road pricing in busy town centres but not motorways

My objection to big Jeep type vehicles has nothing to do with the carbon footprint.
If I or my family are hit by one as a pedestrian we are far more likely to be killed or seriously injured. A lot of thought goes into a 'normal' shaped car so that if the unthinkable happens the injury is lessened by the point of impact and what the body does next.
Many people claim they buy these vehicles because they are 'safer'. Safer for the occupant maybe, but at a selfish cost to the person they hit.
