I remember seeing parts of what I think was a BBC documentary on the history of Jazz.  I think it might have been on BBC2 in 2002 or thereabouts.  There were several episodes chronicalling the very beginning of Jazz to the present day.  They had a few interviews with Winston Marsalis etc.

What I found most interesting was the old footage and that is my main reason for wanting to find out if it's available on DVD etc.  I'm not even sure of the name of the programme so this is where I need help!  I'm not a jazz fan as such but the programme was so good it really caught my attention.

I'm also a non-jazz fan who loved this programme. It's called Jazz - A Film By Ken Burns and is available as a 4 disc DVD set running to about 12 hours. Amazon has it for 79.99 but you may be able to find it for a little less.

Thank you littleoldme!  That sure looks like the programme I saw!  Now the problem is the price!! ;)  I'll have to have a long think about whether I want to pay that much money for it (I have other series to buy too that I've been putting off too!).

Incidently, www.play.com have it for 64.99 which is a bit more affordable! Link

You're welcome, KM! You're right, 80 for a 4-disc set is a bit steep. I'd forgotten about play.com (doh!).
