The only reason I post this link is to query (genuine interest, not suspicion) why you would need this info?

sasha, i wired money to my friend in UK who first gave me 20-20-20 as sort code but later changed it to 20- 44-86 . So now i am at a loss as to what happened. Since i wired it to the first sort code i am worried if it is correct. I know the bank is barcklays but is it ok that i wired it to the first sort code? i wired from india.
20-44-86  is Barclays Bank, Camden & Islington Branch, 38 Islington Green, London N1 8EH   BUT this sort code also covers Camden High Street Branch  and  Corporate Banking at Marble Arch.    I cannot find a home for 20-20-20 it may well be a newish centre to cover a few branches as is increasingly common these days.   Just a few weeks ago there was a readily avaiable web-site which listed all UK branches for free - you can still get this but need to pay to join up - however NatWest still give all their branches listed by sort-code for anyone interested.   The information regarding bank addresses and sort-code is NOT some mysterious secret, the complete listing of all UK branches and institutions is published annually and is readily available to anyone who needs it to send a financial document to it`s correct destination.  I have had no reason to look in the local library but there is no reason whatsoever why it should not there.
gkramesh, why would you worry yourself about which branch it's for? Are you planning on visiting both branches to resolve this personally?
If you've wired the money then ask the 2 banks involved to trace the money and fix it.

i am in india that's why i can't ask these branches in person. (i am sure over the phone isin't going to work). Maybe my friend should have asked by now. Still guessing. IF anyone knows about sort code 20-20-20 kindly reply.

That's my point. The only way for you to fix this is to instruct your bank to look into it and then leave them to do their jobs.

There is no benefit to you in knowing that this branch is in Manchester, Liverpool, London or anywhere else.
What do you propose to do with the address once you know it? Visit them? (no, you're in India). Write to them? (Again, no - they need to hear from your bank instead).

I work in banking and I'm at a loss as to what exactly you are able to do with the bank and branch of any sortcode. If the first sort code isn't valid, the money will probably be returned to you and you'll need to re-send it.

Am I missing something? What is it that you plan to do once you know which branch etc. it is?

Steve, it would be good if the money returns to me if it was the wrong sort code. I am just anxious and hope 20-20-20 is Barcklays bank sort code. That was what i intended to confirm. If it is the correct code(even if diferent branch)  then i would be happy that they will reroute it to the correct branch. (My friend is in camden). Thanks for replying

The first 2 digits of the sortcode generally indicate the bank. The rest of it relates to the branch so it will have reached Barclays.
Now, as I said, if there has been an error, tell your bank and leave them to it.

Thank you stevie and others for the replies. Now i just want to relax!!!
20-20-20 is a generic sort code that barclays bank uses for non-branch specific cash machine cards (not debit cards)
