Whilst Paul McCartney is, justifiably, a highly respected musician, regardless of his failing ability to perform as he once did he seems to be wheeled out at practically every major national event and the coronation, something that will be beamed around the world, appears to be next on the list.

Should he be invited to perform - or should it finally be acknowledged that he really is past his sell-by date?

I think he’s definitely past his sell by date.
Never mind, Sir Brian May will be on the roof doing that thing again.
Please tell me Cliff Richard will not be there trying to sing.
He and Charles are past their sell -by date .
Please no!
NO NO NO and NO! Never ever again please please please.

Brian May on the roof? YES YES YES! Anytime.
Surely Chas would have a say in who he wants to listen to. And if PM is his choice, who are we to disagree.
But Brian May on the roof or anywhere? NO NO NO. And i say that as a massive Queen fan. He's in serious danger of becoming a performing monkey.
Could never understand the fuss about PM

He's always been just an average singer from the start and the last time I saw him singing , he was dire.

Is he really the best they could secure to perform ?
He has been past it for years, such a shame he hasn't chosen a dignified retirement. I would hope that a variety of music will be chosen, maybe a gospel choir, maybe Katherine Jenkins, for the Welsh contingent. I can't think of many artists who would turn down that gig.
Sam Smith has been shortlisted as a stand in old queen.
He might be an average singer but he has written or co-written some of the greatest songs.
As a matter of fact I watched him in concert not all that long ago and he was pretty ok I thought. Maybe that was just me :-)

Doesn't he brew beer?

Nor I. Couldn't understand the Beatles, for that matter. Farily mediocre bunch but who just managed to grab young people's attention at the right time. Although their sales suggest otherwise, nothing outstanding musically. Mind you, you have to take what I say with a large sack of salt as I reckon Elvis Presley only just manages to scrape into the category of a "half decent Karaoke singer."

:-) :-) :-)
I wouldn't think King harles has heard much popular music since the Beatles went on separate ways.

ButPaul is very past it. In my opinion, he never had a good voice. Andy will disagree.

I can think of far more suitable people.
To me Tom Jones would be a great choice. Great voice, same generation as the King and can adapt to all genres of music. Other than that Alfie Boe,

BM won't be doing it again anytime ken. He said it was very very frightening.
I hope he doesn't sing 'Yesterday'.
I agree with New Judge about the Beatles, but George Harrison went on to be the most talented of them.
He's past it now !!!
^^^
I hope he doesn't sing - full stop .

Mine was in response to tilly's
"nothing outstanding musically"

You are a card NJ.
