So there is a pledge to increase our 8 bank holidays - Christmas, Boxing Day, New Years Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, May x 2, and today.

What should we include..............

I propose the last Friday in October which would coincide with the extra hour on the Saturday when the clocks change as well. This breaks it up a bit as well.

Any ideas?

i suppose they'll introduce one for the eighteenth of December after England win the world cup next year . . .
What pledge are you taking about?
Today is not a Bank Holiday in Scotland (though the actual banks may be closed) but schools etc all operating as normal. We do however get a holiday on St Andrews Day.

Some union officials on the news Corby.
// What pledge //

labour pledged to make all 4 patron saints days public holidays, in their manifesto.
St Andrew's Day and St Patrick's Day are already Bank Holidays in Scotland and Ulster respectively.

I wonder what would happen when St George's Day falls on Good Friday or Easter Sunday, a longer weekend perhaps?
For those who work something in the autumn would be nice. After today it's a very long haul up to Christmas with no obvious break.
I think I'd prefer a BH after we lose an hour in March.
//I wonder what would happen when St George's Day falls on Good Friday or Easter Sunday, a longer weekend perhaps?//

It won’t fall on Good Friday until 2038 and after that not again until 2190. It will not fall on Easter Sunday until 2079 and then not until 2152.

I don’t expect the government to have come to a decision before any of those dates! :-)
23rd June. We could call it the Long Independence Day. Or LID for short.
Whatever is decided, please let us hope that we don't end up like France with, I think it is, 3 in one month (May). It really snarls things up. I don't think we can afford too many Bank Hols. t.b.h.. I'd like St. George's day to bring us into line with the other home nations. Something in the Autumn would be nice. St. Cecelia's Day and combine it with a national day of music as they have in France?
Nah, the weathers allus crap :0)))
^^^ Sorry 22nd November. Goes back to 1570 and music festivals - not the open-air pop ones!
Why not Samhain, 31st october. It's already becoming a big event for some with Halloween. Might be nice to celebrate the original meaning of the day.
November 11th
Ellipses that would be my birthday then ;0)))
Even better!
Haha, yes I suppose it is :0)
13th October would be a good choice.
Indeed it would but I fear it may not be universally popular.
