I was preparing dinner and heard a loud crash / bang from outside, went out to find some old bloke had reversed into my car, he has smashed all the front bumper and the lights in, my car was on my driveway and he had reversing sensors on his car. On the plus side he has offered to pay for the damage without involving the insurance companies.

Hi Traci. I'm so sorry to hear about your car but luckily no one was hurt.

Call me cynical but did you still get his insurance details and did you get him to put in writing that he would pay?
you might be best informing your own insurers though. Even in a no-fault notice, they can come back and bite you.

Silly, silly man.

Yes and yes, how are you MrsO?
I thought that you were going to say 'shouldn't be allowed to breed' and I agree with that. I speak as someone who would have made a terrible mother.
Bloody hell Traci, the Saab. ?
I'm fine thanks. Are you still bored? lol
Having read Mrs O's reply, I'd go for the insurance. Did you get his Reg No?
Question Author
I have never had a single bump, just wondering if maybe he was so keen not to have the police involved or the insurance companies as just maybe he had come out of the pub over the road.
Sorry to hear that Traci. Hope it`s sorted without fuss. x
I thought that too Wolf!
Question Author
Yes Tony, the Saab.
Oh dear Traci, what rotten luck. Would be slightly wary of him offering to pay for the damage without involving Insurance Co. Get estimate ASAP and ask for money up front. Maybe just the way my mind works but you could have repairs carried out then he refuses to pay or says it wasn't his fault and you're left out of pocket.

And yes Alba, I got his reg no.
Question Author
Maggie I am going to get the quote tomorrow and send it to him, thinking maybe I should inform the police, there are witnesses.
get a couple of estimates asap then ring him and tell him the exact cost and ask for the money up front as maggie suggests, he might then change his mind, your lucky you were at home and its highly likely he had a few sherbets at the pub and once he has sobered up he might not be so willing to pay.Hope you get it sorted quickly and does your policy say courtesy car whilst yours is being mended, its going to cost this guy a bomb.

Hi Dee, yes my policy has all the bells and whistles, I decided to inform the police, just waiting for them to turn up and the guy lives less than a ten minute walk from me, why the funk was he in his car for that short distance?
So easily done, not only by the "oldies" but I would bet that anyone who has driven a vehicle for 25years+ has at some time reversed into somebody or something.

Bad luck Traci.
Sqad I've been driving for 37 years and have never caused any kind of accident.
I was wondering how long somebody would reply with that one........good on yer crafty.
Question Author
I have been driving for nearly thirty years and that is my first bump, that's not bad considering I was in the house and my car was stationary on the drive !!
