I turn the big 4-0 at the end of the month and am unsure what to do for it! I have been thinking about a long weekend in Berlin but would appreciate any other suggestions! I have limited funds and am not one for parties! Prefer to holiday alone ( saves arguments - been there, done that!!) and love city visits! Open to acts of randomness too! What did / would you do?

Why not do something you've never done before?
In the past I've taken myself off on a pony trekking holiday
I went to Paris with a few friends.

isn't there somewhere you'd love to see?
Barcelona for the weekend?
Prague`s well worth a visit. So are the ice hotels in Scandinavia.

I'd love to tour New Zealand or travel around South America but being as poor as a church mouse thats not going to happen! Happy to accept sponsorship though!Been to Paris a couple a times - it was fab!

Barcelona was on the short list as was Madrid are they better options than Berlin?
that's a long way to go for a weekend ;o)
I went to Berlin in November - the Berliners are the rudest people on the planet!
Barcelona is lovely.. Venice is a bit magical :o)
I used to quite like Berlin but I don`t remember there being that much to do apart from go to the wall (it was ages ago). Prague`s stunning though. I haven`t been there for several years but I think it is still quite cheap.
How about Istanbul?
Agree, Istanbul is fascinating (cheap too)
How about The London Eye, walk across the Millennium footbridge, catch a few London sights that you keep meaning to see (St Pauls, Westminster Abbey etc), then a West End show.

Why bother with the hassle of airports or international train terminals which could be disrupted by snow again?
the orient express?
i prefered rome to barcelona, and venice is wonderful.
I went to Berlin not by choice but I found it surprisingly special - the Brandenburg gate, Checkpoint Charlie and its museum, an amazing massive clock run by coloured water or something, the aquarium, tour of the austere buildings in the old east quarter, a bomb ruined cathedral in the centre that has been left as is. This was just over a long weekend
This might sound an odd one but in April me & a friend are going to Krakow for 2 days and paying a visit to Auschwitz.
It's a surprisingly cheap break

I lived in london for 4 and 1/2 years so it wouldn't be something different although it is one of my favourite cities! Istanbul is a place i hadn't thought of !! Will check it out on line to see how do-able it would be for a long weekend!
Or, somwhere in this country, you've not been, say the lake District or one of the Scottish Isles, lots to do and see, and the climate will be errrrrrrrrrr bracing.
I would second Istanbul - It's fasinating
If it's only for a weekend, what about Amsterdam or Bruges?
