well I was there 2 days and handed in my resignantion today. Was umming and arrghing over job. the lady had given me rota for next week today that was ridiculous and working early sat and sunday so I decided it just wasnt for me. I could have stayed on a bit while I looked for another job but that wouldnt have been fair on their company so I left. I just wouldnt have had a life there.

what type of job was it 4get?
I have to do shifts like that
When I was a temp, doing secretarial work, I was always given the jobs no-one wanted to do, the typing from someone whose writing was illegible, working weekends when I was at an Estate Agents, you are just treated like a second class citizen. As you were 'new' you seem to have been treated the same. Not fair.
Is that the job you have just started?
it all depends on what the job is, retail is now both Sats and Sundays, working in care homes ect is too,
gone are the days when we did a Mon-Fri in most cases
Hope you find something more suitable soon.
So right bobbi
Sounds about normal for the new member of staff, I got that when I started my current job, 5am starts and 11pm finishes quite often, I buckled down and done if for a year, they made me IT manager and now I have a lot easier life.

It is worth it sometimes.

it was headhousekeeper. When she interviewed me it was as full time. this weeks rota was only 29 hours. then next weeks rota was 7.30 till 4 week days and then weekends I just wouldnt have had a life. I enjoyed what work I did do, but whats point of staying there when I wouldnt have gone out or seen my partner.
I suppose you have to do what is right for you at the time 4get
Question Author
bobbi in my last job I worked shift saturdays. That isnt a problem but sndays aswell was, would have had 2 days off in week but no one about anyway
Wasn't it as Head Housekeeper at a hotel, or similar? Of course you would have to work such hours....Hotels are a 24 hour-a-day business. Better luck next time.
forget i work six days on including the weekend
unfortunately 4get thats the way things are now, I'm not saying it's right but there are very few jobs now that don't incorporate a weekend,
pasta is right you are the head housekeeper
I'm afraid that's the nature of any job in the hospitality industry. Wasn't the shift pattern explained to you when you had the interview? and were you going to be paid a salary per month or only an hourly rate for hours worked? In some jobs anything over 16 hours counts as full time, and flexibility is expected - I can't imagine you didn't think you'd not work weekends sometimes. What I don't understand is why someone else is handing you your rota - as head housekeeper I would have throught it was your responsibility to write the rotas! I'm sorry it didn't work out for you but I worked in hotels for many years and people's shifts were all over the place, we just accepted it as part of the job.
Question Author
yes pasta I know they are open long hours but at interview she told me different. It was like I accepted a job that I didnt want to do. I had to leave and as I said rather than stay on till I found another job I left so she could get back in some of the other interviewees. poodi what hours do you do because you are on here quite a bit. Do you get a break because they gave a 20 min break on a 8 hr shift. I didnt eat all Monday or Tuesday
Question Author
yes boxtops but as I said she mentioned different hours in interview. was originally 9 till 2.30 sat and sunday then changed to 8.30 to 3 how long efore I was doing 7am till 5? Would you stay in a job where you wernt happy?
something very wrong there 4get, the goalposts have been moved I know re breaks but you are supposed to take a 15 min one after 6 hrs, all depends, did you get paid for them?
Hi forget,i dont have noted breaks i am dealing wih people,i can see where you are coming from
