Today, the Daily Mail, the Sun a couple of senior army personnel and Richard Littlejohnhave decried the BNP.

Littlejohn writes:

Don't forget, even though he leads a party of little more than a few skinheads above a kebab shop, Griffin is a politician. He can lie, obfuscate and dissemble with the best of them.

That's what politicians do.

I wouldn't describe any of the above as member or supporters of 'the loony left'.

That being the case, would it be fair to say that most normal people are disgusted by the BNP?

I mean did you SEE the double page spread in the Mail???

It's now becoming quite shocking...

BNP Apologists...how do you feel about the criticisms from those who you wouldn't expect criticisms from?

you couldn't stick a hair between them, the extreme left and extreme right are so glued together no amount of hospital treatment could separate them, they have one thing in common, destroy any aspect of civil liberty, 'Comply or Die is their aim' Prudentia XXX

I hear what you're saying...ideologsof whatever political persusion won't accept any view but their own.

However, my point was more general...it seems that it's not just the far left who despise the BNP - criticism is coming from all over the place...from quarters you wouldn't have expected!
Times have changed you could say that it is not just the right whingers who hate the looney left. After the demo in Manchester the other week i heard loads of people in the royal oak slag the looney left. Can you adam and eve it.
for extreme, read 'mad, insane and lethally and clinically destructive'. Prudentia xxx
blimey - how do you think I feel finding myself on the same side as the Mail and Littlejohn? I am disgraced forever.
The BNP is attracting criticism because they've managed to attract a sizeable number of votes.
A few years back white working-class people would have been the backbone of the Labour Party. They now see that party as having dumped them. There was also a substantial Tory vote among working class people. I think that's dwindled too.
The BNP can only prosper because the major parties have neglected the people who now vote for the extremists. Until the grievances, real or imagined, of the white working-class are addressed there will be an increase in support for the BNP.
The success of the BNP has made it a target. In attacking them newspapers like the Mail and The Sun are attacking the symptom rather than the cause.

The Daily Mail, The Sun and Richard Littlejohn have been very vocal in attacking the causes though (immigration, Islamification).

So how come they are so vocal in attacking the BNP?

None of these organs are 'left leaning' by any means...so it would appear that it's the left, centre and right who have united in condemnation of the party.

Why is that?
Who is the extreme left in the UK?

Arthur Scargill's mob?

Whilst not being a supporter I don't believe that the extreme left are racially motivated - that is an important difference - more than a hair
The BNP prosper when people feel ignored and downtrodden in favour of johnny Foriegner. Most people would not vote BNP if they realised the natural consequences of their policies. But to those who feel excluded from society and see huge swathes of resouces given to foriegners as they see it, then they will find the tip of the BNP ice berg attractive but if they realised that their half Jamacan grandfather would be deported under BNP policies they would soon recoil away. When the mainstream politicians of the day offer nothing to the dissaffected then those people are driven into the open arms of the BNP.

sp1814 you behave as a typcal liberal who confuses understanding with support and pathalogically hate anything outside your mainstram "right on" views. Stand back and you'll see that even those of us you see as apologists are anti BNP but the difference is we try and understand why they gain support rather than the hysterical hand wringing that you regularly engage in.
I don't think confusing understanding with support is confined to liberals Geezer.

I see it a lot when I say things like even the most appalling offender should be allowed a fair trial
When the Mail or the Sun have a go at immigration they are rubbish papers that only idiots and scum would read.
Now they have a go at the BNP and it seems most normal people read them.

Strange ?
If you allow the Banning of Political Parties from the Screen, who takes the decision ?

That's not true actually.

thedodge - I still think the Mail is a scumbag paper (the whole Stephen Gately thing proves that). My point is that it seems that everyone (including unexpected sources) are lining up to put the boot into the BNP...<i>not just 'the far left'</i> as is often stated on these very pages.

brionon - you seem to be answering a completely different thread.
Maybe the Sun and The Mail are attacking the BNP now because they are afraid that an increased vote for them would reduce the chances of a clear Tory victory at the next election?

That I could understand, but even former army generals General Sir Mike Jackson and General Sir Richard Dannatt, have issued a statement warning "that political extremists had no right to share the Armed Forces' proud reputation".

This is my point - it seems that people from all walks of life are doing their level best to disassociate themselves from the BNP!

It just goes to prove that some on here will readily agree with those that in the past they have slagged off, but only when they are singing from the same hymn sheet as them.

Regarding Littlejohn and the Mail, even if they agreed with some of the BNPs ideas, they would not risk siding with them.

In these days of deteriorating freedom of "Free Speech", who would dare to speak out against anything that is the fashionable No, No. of the moment?

We have seen in the past the careers of celebrities, journalists, politicians etc. ruined because they have happened, maybe at the slip of the tongue, let something be said that is not quite PC.

The Left may not be racially motivated, but they do not like anyone who's thinkings differ from theirs. They also want to take control in every way, the years of this Labour party is a prime example (the nanny state).

Under the far left (communist) one would have no freedom whatsoever.

You fear the Far Right now, if ever the Far Left were in power, then you would be really frightened. Unless you became totally subservient to the State, you would find yourselves in Labour Camps, or looking over your shoulder before you said anything.

Hang on is this what we have to do now?
