Should the management be told to act as posties for one week using their new pegasus system to see if it is workable before hoisting it on the workers?

Yes.
will they also have to be trained to continually put other peoples mail through my letter box?
Hmm. Show them a mail bag, let alone the other 7 I take out every day, and they'll probably say "what do I do with this then?"
Are they on strike then? My post has already arrived this morning.
Jan - it's the sorting office staff on strike today. Tomorrow the delivery and collection staff are on strike, so you probably won't get post delivered tomorrow.
Oh well, it's usually only bills and junk mail anyway.
Ah thanks for that, I was a bit confused when the postman turned up at work this morning. Twas only bills anyway of course...

if they are suppose to be on strike today and fri how come i had post today?
Pegasus is a Canadian computer program designed to work out optimum deliveries per postman in the time allowed. However, it does not take into account steps, local obstacles (wheely bins, toys in the way), time taken for people to answer the door if needed, and - the biggest and most stupidest thing of all - that a constant pace can be obtained. Like any job, we slow up the more we do, and it is a physically tiring job.

Also, automatic sorting machines are all very well, except that the accuracy leaves a lot to be desired.
I meant to say the constant pace cannot be maintained....
zzxxee - as spudqueen posted above, sorting ofiice staff today, delivery & collections tomorrow
cheers chelle realised when i clicked to send it xx
Whatever the point sput here if they strike for too long the post office will die. Many people will loose their jobs

From comments from the unions it is clear this is a political thing with as usual unions using the workers as pawns.
in York apparently they are both out today (sorting and delivery) but will both be working tomorrow....
youngmafbog - I'm not sure it's the workers striking that will kill it. I think they have some very good reasons for the strike action.

I'm not saying that the workers dont have reason but in simple economic terms if they strike then they will loose businees. Loose business and it usually does not come back. Less business means less workers. Get my drift ?

Pegasus is a system designed for robots and humans don't act like robots. If the system is designed to do the sorting of the round before he/she delivers them that means more leg work in carrying out the round. Anyone who has worked on a production line will know the shortccomings in outcomes and the obstacles you come across. Also all rounds are different as also is the speed of doing a round. As the post office is making enormous profits this new idea should be kicked into touch by Adam Crazier (sorry Crozier) and he should return to the head of the FA.
