Where does the expression 'A load of Tosh' or a load of old tosh originate. What is TOSH?

My big fat dictionary says "Of unknkown origin". It's possibly a blend of 'TRASH' and 'BOSH'.
it means rubbish or nonsense, unsure of origins.

A hackneyed term for meaning nonsense/rubbish.

One of the earliest meanings of 'tosh' came from cricket in the late 19th century and referred to bowling that was contemptibly easy to deal with...ie what we today would probably call 'rubbish bowling'. It then came to mean 'rubbish' in any circumstances.
