most of these sugegstions are good if you have children between toddler and teens.

you could go to - the seal life centre/ boat trip to seals/ blakney seal centre ( these 3 sugegstions arent good if you dont like seals), visit the broads (not sure if theres boat trips from yarmouth but theres boat trips from oulton broad, 5 miles south of g.y., next to lowestoft, in suffolk.), donkey ride on beach, go to lowestoft down the road (a much better place because thats where i'm from) go to cromer there a nice beach and . . . quaintness. oh theres carlton marshes also in suffolk just outside oulton (good for bird watching and walking around in . . . well marshes.)
p.s. how far is the cottage from the sea because this area is very prone to erosion. if its less than 10 metres from a cliff i'd be worried.

Great Yarmouth is (at least on the face of it) a total dump. The sea front is full of shabby buildings, which have either closed down or function as 'chips with everything' cafs. The main road which leads to the seafront has little to offer except yet more cafs, loads of 'pound shop' type places and several amusement arcades. Even the leisure centre (which has had a bit of an overhaul recently) is rather outdated. (The swimming pool has a wave machine but that's about it).

Don't despair though. The area does have its attractions; it's just that they don't exactly leap out at you. Here are a few pointers:

1. If you're in GY when the market is open, it's well worth a visit. (It's one of East Anglia's better open air markets, as long as you can get away from the smell of chips coming from the covered area).

2. The Heritage Quarter is well worth a look:

(In particular, don't miss the 'Time & Tide' museum).

3. If the weather's good, and you want to find a really good beach, head to Yarmouth's southern suburb of Gorleston. (Unless, like me, you're a naturist. In which case I'll see you on Corton naturist beach, just south of GY!)

4. You can't fail to notice Europe's largest off-shore wind farm. There's a small exhibition about it, in a building on the sea front. (It's quite interesting, even though it only takes a few minutes to go round it).

greyhound racing ,joyland is good for younger kids, you can visit redwings horse santuary at fritton about 3 miles from yarmouth and there is no charge for entry, also a walk in fritton woods , fritton lake and park , and somerleyton hall and gardens are all within 10 miles
blimey, is joyland still there? the spaceship and the snails???

I havnt been to yarouth for a long time, and even back then it wasnt the greatest place to visit. But there are lots of lovely towns and villages nearby and the Broads are lovely.

I have to agree with Chris. The best thing to come out of GY is the A12!

If you get chance though, head north up towards Wroxham and Potter Heigham - take a boat out for the day (or take a boat ride) on the broads. Absolutely stunning.

Hmmmmmm - oh well we'll have to see what we think of it but doesn't sound too promising!
Not too far from the beach - rented a place.
kids are teens, so i'm hoping there are rides they'll be able to go on.
thanks for your replies & any more are welcome
A super alternative to Great Yarmouth would be Cleethorpes, IT'S beautifully clean.

Hi no kno - thanks but too far & we've gone &booked now!

Bit surprised that people are calling it a dump but there again i havn't been there for years. I suppose it depends the place you are staying at and also what you make of a holiday. I went to Benidorm some years ago, Spanish Blackpool, couldnt stand the place but we made the most of it and after a few drinks it didnt seem to bad.
Have Fun.
no idea, never been anywhere in england for a holiday
.oh i did and we were home within 48hours.
yarmouth is a dump and thats why i was directing you to oulton alot.

lol.

but my sister lives there soi didnt slg it off too much.
