I thought that Julie Walters was excellent as ever and found the whole thing very moving - the actors who were cast as her children were very good too - mind you, as soon as she was saying goodbye to her cat I started crying and have only just stopped.
What did other AB's think of it?

yeah, it was the cat bit that got me started!
gulp so weepy!!!
I told myself i wouldnt watch it as only lost my husband afew months ago (not related to the disease in the programme) but anything Julie Walters does is excellent so i did watch and cried all the way and found it quite therapeutic in a way. Though i never want to hear anyone i love say the words "I want to die " again.

Sorry i just made that very personal.

Night night Mamya x
I just saw the last ten minutes and it made me cry!! I didn't intend to watch any of it because I knew that with the wonderful Julie Walters playing the part it would be a real tear joker. Funnily enough, I had watched Mama Mia for the first time in the afternoon - Julie was so excellent and a real comedienne in that - what a tribute to her abilities that she can play two such different roles.

She needs to be made a Dame pdq!!
'tear jerker' !!!
Noticed the title is just one letter of being Assist. Was that intended I wonder ?
Yes, brilliant, on all counts.
I Sky + it and watched it this morning. My eyes are all puffed up now with crying. Julie Walters is so talented. It was wonderfully done and yes, I cried at the cat bit !!
Even Flora got her name in the credits ! Her proper name is Socks !
I sat & watched Short Stay with one of our daughters & our other daughter watched it at home. We all needed tissues to hand, as it was so moving. One never knows what's round the corner....

Julie Walters is one of our favourite actresses & agree that she should become a dame!

Even her spoken word tapes are brilliant!

For anyone who missed it & would like to watch it:

Why were you diappointed sachs?
I didn't intend to watch it last night as I wanted an early night but I just had to see it to the end. I thought it was a very moving and thought provoking programme and Julie Walters was just superb. I must admit to being moved to tears too
puddi - did you notice my link to it?
I watched A Short Stay in Switzerland, and couldn't stop crying. I lost my mum just over 2 years ago and it brought back a lot of the memories, of the day she died. Julie Walters is a fantastic actress and deserves to be a Dame. ( Am I the only person in uk not to have seen Mamma Mia)????
Question Author
No, bestmum, I haven't seen Mamma Mia yet either!
I think I've watched nearly every film, play & listened to every story tape/cd JW's has been in, but I haven't yet watched Mamma Mia either..

But there's time yet....
hi every1 my dad has the same awful condition that was protrayed in the drama.although he doesnt choke he has all the same symtoms as anne turner had.he is only 57 and i feel in some ways i have lost my dad already.he falls doesnt want to eat need help washing dressing struggles to walk etc.my dad is also very very depressed and he too says i want to die rehularly which started me off.he has no interest in life at all and says he just wants 2 lie down and die i sobbed all the way through it and i agree julie walters did an excellent job in portraying anne turner.i am so glad this drama was shown as it will bring to light the horror which is psp as most people have never heard of it.at the start of my dads condition he was accused of being drunk when he was ill, people are so quick to judge.i whole heartedly think dr turner did the right thing by choosing to die as she knew her fate and realised how awful it would be.if i can pull my dad from his depression and he decided he wanted to die i would go with him to switzerland.yes it would break my heart 2 lose him but so will watching him get worse and worse and ending up unable 2 move, speak, eat, drink etc a long slow lingering death.i think assisted suicide should be legal in the uk.no one chooses to get a crippling illness so surely a person should be able 2 choose when they die and to die wth dignity
Hi blackcat,
I thought her acting wasn't up to her usual standard.
