to trace their Family Tree?. I was thinking about it having watched '' Who Do You Think You Are'' last night.

I have seen companies advertise on the Internet, but not sure how genuine they are or how much it would cost.

My mothers cousin is in the middle of it now, she has most of my mothers side going back over 100 years, but has hit a brick wall! Mostly because of the fact that they are from Southern Ireland! Interesting.... but I don't have the patience!
Genes reunited is under 10 per year.
Ive traced my family back to 1705. Also, last week i met my 2nd cousin once removed having found her on Genes.I didn`t know she existed til a few months ago
My dad has been doing ours and he was back to the 1500's I think last time I heard

I remember going to a records office down in Wiltshire to help him trace records when I was little.
For so long i have been looking for members of my family. I eventually found most of them. They were at me nans, i forgot it was Sunday.
As I said, my mothers family are from ireland and they actually went to Ireland to see the house where my great grandmother was born only to find it was knocked down year before. They went to an estate agency to see if they had any records of the family that lived there or any forwarding address..... to the womans amaisement (and my parents) in the shop, it was actually her grandparents house!

They got to meat a lot of her family, but sadly the imediate family had long passed on!

NoBrain found his family and ended up sitting on a branch in a tree with a bunch of chimps in Africa ?

One of the reasons is, I never met any of my Fathers Family, granddad/grandmother etc, as he ran away from home when he was young.
yes I am tracing mine and my partners tree, my family are all from ireland and my partners are from all over england!, it is very interesting and I have met some relatives via genes reunited, I have just renewed my subscription to 1837.com!
My sister in law has done the family tree ..
back to 1471 ..a lot was leg work as in
parish records ..grave stones etc..
it's now easier on the net ..but she said
not as much fun ..also a day out !!
no the living are bad enough !
I've been doing mine for about 20 years Rtaxron. Got about 18 lines on the go. So far, can confirm a line back to 1537, but am confident of taking it back much earlier. If you go into History and then Genealogy, there are helpful peeps in there.

It's rather addictive though.
personally, i think It's a waste of time, ie, can you rule out any illegitimate children down the line, dont forget that having an affair is not a modern pleasure, it has gone on since time began, and the further you go back the less contraception there was,
can you be absolutely certain that your grandfather was was the father of your father, I have doubts about my family at much later dates than that, ie i look more like my cousin than my brother, I won't elaborate on that, work it out for yourself,
I'm not trying to put you off but surely you can see the potential flaws in tracing a tree that far back, but if you go ahead , i wish you the best of luck.

Point taken logic. But if you trace the maternal lines (like I do) there is a greater chance of finding the correct ancestor. (not a 100% chance, I accept, since often a woman would bring up her eldest daughter's illegitimate child as her own - its happened at least 3 times in my family that I know of).

yes barmaid my brother traced our tree tree back to the french revolution, apparantly our ancestors were french nobility who fled france to escape the guilotine,
True, ? I don't know, but there certainly isn't any nobility left now. he gave up when he realised how flawed it was,
But having said that ,I guess it must be interesting.
