Does anybody know where I can find links to detailed information on the banning of the Life of Brian in a number of European countries? Incidentally, when it was eventually released in Sweden the advertising blurb went - 'The film that is so funny it was banned in Norway.'

There's a book called "Monty Python: The Case Against" which is about the team's struggles with censorship and includes the "Life Of Brian" controversy, it's out of print but you should be able to order it from your local library.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I was aware of the Hewison book but libraries in my area don't have it. Thanks again.
You could try this site for info: http://web.ukonline.co.uk/sotcaa/python.html
IMDB.COM offers the following in the Trivia section for that movie: This film was initially banned in Norway for blasphemy. It wasn't released there until 1980. Subsequently, it has been marketed in Sweden as "The film that is so funny that it was banned in Norway!" - also: This film was initially banned from theatrical release in Ireland for blasphemy. It took a further 8 years for it to get a release.
