You guys watching bbc2 tonight 18\02. (no doubt I'll have Mi5 knocking on me door after this post). Conspiracy by the US government or just an act of terrorism? Thoughts?

I watched the news that day and I do not believe it was a conspiracy.
Not so long ago I heard someone quote something like,"if you say you can do something you can do it,if you say you can't do something you can't do it."
I think that applies to conspiracy theories,if you look for a conspiracy you will find it.

I don't believe a plane hit The Pentagon. And if we had a bit more honesty from the US government, as well as the UK, maybe we might not have as many conspiracy theories.

Possibly Ollie, the damage doesn't justify the size of the plane. After watching the documentary things don't seem as clear cut as we were initially led to believe. I'm not a conspiracy theorist by any means but it all seems a very convenient excuse to tackle the middle east issue.

I can`t understand how The Pentagon only had `Mickey Mouse` CCTV cameras...surely a place like that would have enough decent cameras to catch the incident

What happened to the passengers is what I find eerie about the Pentagon conspiracy.

Could they only find one passenger from the Delta Airlines plane who was willing to be interviewed? I missed the first 20 minutes of the programme.

Apparently around 400 Jewish people died on 9/11 (some reports say 500).

It was the amount who alledgedly stayed away I found disturbing, can't remember the figure quoted but wasn't it about 4000?

'A total of 2,071 occupants of the World Trade Center died on September 11, among the 2,749 victims of the WTC attacks. According to an article in the October 11, 2001, Wall Street Journal, roughly 1,700 people had listed the religion of a person missing in the WTC attacks; approximately 10% were Jewish. A later article, in the September 5, 2002, Jewish Week, states, "based on the list of names, biographical information compiled by The New York Times, and information from records at the Medical Examiner's Office, there were at least 400 victims either confirmed or strongly believed to be Jewish." This would be approximately 15% of the total victims of the WTC attacks. A partial list of 390 Cantor Fitzgerald employees who died (out of 658 in the company) lists 49 Jewish memorial services, which is between 12% and 13%.

This 10-15% estimate of Jewish fatalities tracks closely with the percentage of Jews living in the New York area. According to the 2002 American Jewish Year Book, 9% of the population of New York State, where 64% of the WTC victims lived, is Jewish. A 2002 study estimated that New York City's population was 12% Jewish. Forty-three percent of the WTC victims lived in New York City. Thus, the number of Jewish victims correlates very closely with the number of Jewish residents in New York. If 4,000 Jews had not reported for work on September 11, the number of Jewish victims would have been much lower than 10-15%.'

You can understand on the day that many people must have paniced just as the airline people did on the tape we heard when the first plane was diverted but the one behind (the Delta one) was originally thought to be the hijacked one, you can understand their panic but I do not believe it was a consipiracy having heard all parties but you are going to get disbelievers because of previous lies and corruption and I think you will always have it, its a bit like did we really get to the moon or are those conspiracies? I don't think so personally!

Thanks for that Pippa, good to know that's one that can be ruled out then :) There are so many disturbing conspiracies it's hard to know what to think now.

It's so sad that the deaths of those poor innocent people are marred by all these conspiracies whether there is any merit in them or not.

For me, I'm still not really sure what to believe and what not to believe, although, as discussed here already, there were some interesting points raised...
* Poor CCTV at the Pentagon - of course it would have better cameras and coverage
* Jewish people apparently staying away (?)
* What about the explosions down the Towers slightly before they fell?
Conspiracies are there to raise suspicion, especially if governments are so secretive about certain details. I mean, the US were more or less forced to release the CCTV footage of the Pentagon. You would have thought it would have voluntarily released this footage sooner, no?

No CCTV from the Pentagon has ever been released (if it exists) the CCTV that has been shown and was on the programme last night was from a garage across the street from the Pentagon.

I thought the "explosions" coming from the twin towers were adequately explained in last night's programme, as were the explanations about the 'missing ' plane (it was another plane).

I've always thought the so called motive for the 9/11 attacks was a bit dubious - 'it gave Bush a reason to go to war'
If he wanted he would on the strength of th WMD anyway.

Was the 'missing' plane the Delta Airlines plane, galltin? as I said before I missed a large chunk of the programme so didn't see all the theories debunked!

The missing plane has always perplexed me...where did all the passengers go, etc. I think I saw a clip of an interview with a passenger of that plane. I would have liked to have seen more passengers interviewed..

I think you need to ask, why on earth the US government would need to do this? To go to war? People go to war on flimsier things than this - WMD anyone?
