Did anyone else find this programme quite upsetting. I know the dog had to be put to sleep but it was still sad for the owners. I sat and cried!

i thought it was sad, but also i kind of felt like they could have tried to help the dog a bit more.. i mean it was a healthy dog and maybe something could have been done.. mind you i did only see the end of the program from where the dog had bitten the little girl.
Question Author
he had bitten before but usually because of his lust for food. That time he mauled the little girl, didnt just bite her the once and there was no reason. No chances can be taken and how long do you give it?. It is very sad though and must have been heartbreaking for the family. He was still one of them.
yeah its just sad to see a family dog turn on kids :-(
i totally understand why they did it though because you jsut wouldnt be able to sleep incase he attacked her again.. i just kinda feel bad for the dog too though.

missjef, thats exactly how i feel too.
i'm glad i'm not the only one who cried.so sad. and it did seem a bit harsh.couldn't help thinking maybe dog had been upset with all th new discipline in house.rehoming with someone experienced with dogs may have been okay.
I watched the whole programme and had such high hopes for the two dogs, who were obviously keen to learn and eager to please, and then it all went horribly wrong. Thing is, the trainer did pick up on the dogs tendency to nip right at the beginning when she saw it react to its owner telling it off. You could see that it didnt care for discipline. It was a shocking ending as I was definitely expecting a happy one! But then life doesnt always have happy endings does it? I felt sorry for the dad. He was absolutely devastated.
Cried my eyes out, I dont even like dogs, but it was just its face and the fact that was its last run around the car park. :-(
I didn't even watch this programme and I'm upset! :'-(
Me and my mum were sat there actually sobbing our hearts out - it was really sad.

They were both such gorgeous dogs!!!!

I can just picture him now, when he was just laying down in the back of the car...:o( So flippin sad!!!!!

Did anyone notice they both had HUGE bear feet?!?! Absolutely gorgeous!!!
yer and bear teeth too :-) I am scared of most dogs but I would look at that dog and be fine, then it would maul me
lol 4getmenot.

My mum was crying her eyes out coz she had to put a dog of hers down because he had cancer :o(

Gotta be one of the hardest things for someone to do.
yer my dog had leukemia and my lil sis took him to vets and she said he turned round as the vet walked him off and looked at her with his big dog eyes as if to say please dont kill me :-(
I cried my eyes out I am glad I wasnt only one I felt they should have tried harder with the dog but I suppose realistically it did maul the little girl and was dangerous but they did leave it outside the room and treated it differently as they seemed to lose patience with it as it took longer to learn than the other one I was heartbroken watching it

this just shows how we are all suckers for something that looks cute though. It was dangerous and couldnt be trusted. Personally, i dont think they had an option and if you had seen the dog actually attack the girl im sure we would feel differently. As it was, we saw the cute thing looking all sad in the back of the car like butter wouldnt melt. That is what made it difficult viewing. I hated how they showed the man carrying him in a blanket. I saw that as a child when our dog was put to sleep at home. I looked out and saw the vet carrying out this blanket. still upsets me now.

It is the hardest decision to have a dog, or any animal for that matter, put to sleep. My ex husband took our old boxer and then brought him home again only to take him back the following week. Heartbreaking. Puts me off having another dog thats for sure.
It was only a dog. It's not like a person died [edited by ABED].
we had to have a spaniel put down he was 12 and ill but I could never do it my dad had to.

To the guy that said its only a dog they become part of the family and it is a loss after 12 years but if you never had a dog or pet you wouldnt understand the loss.

Your right about them only showing the cute bits and it was the right decision I just didnt expect it
Yes - it is only a dog.

Hammerhead, and so are you! lol
Thank-you. I'm begining to see how things work on here. If someone posts something that you either don't like or disagree with then the only thing to do is resort to name calling. OK here goes - unruliejulie you are a complete...

Nah - wont sink to your level.
It is very sad when you have a pet put down, you obviously haven't been through it, hammerhead, or you would know. Yes, it's only a dog but that is what we are supposed to be discussing. They are part of the family and most people had empathy for the guy on the T.V.
I'm glad the dog was put down because you have to be able to trust your dog, especially with children. And just because he was cute looking shouldn't affect your judgement. I'm also glad they showed it proving that these types of programmes aren't always success stories, and even so called behavioral experts (including all those nanny programmes) can't always solve the problems.
