should it be reintroduced? Personally I cant make my mind up.On the one hand there is always the possability that innocent people get executed but on the other hand how many childrens lives are ruined at the hands of convicted pedophiles who are let loose time & again?
As an ex guest of Her Majesty, i have known quiet a few people that would have swung 50 yrs ago but on the whole (contrary to popular belief) these people WERE sorry for what they had done (crimes of passion type thing). Then you get the smackheads who mug an old woman and think that they are gangsters, and continue to do the same thing.Execute this scum I think. (unless there is any REAL evidence of wanting to change)

And what about the drunk drivers they are the scum of the earth they should be executed too.
.....and what about those hoodies....they should all be put up against a wall and shot!!!!!
Hang them, then give them a fair trial
Oooer Redbel, my 6 yr old had a hoodie on tonight because he was cold and sleepy and wanted to be warm !
Please can you give him a reprieve ?
what about all the old folk who queue in the post office on a monday dinner time when i am trying to post my paperwork then? they are really really pusjing their luck too . Would capital punishment be too harsh a knee jerk response do you think? Oh and dog owners who let their dogs foul in the park, they need a good seeing to too.
Awww larkin...of course, I meant 7yrs and up.... :)

Oh and lets not forget the tv licence dogers..... Hang em high.
worn tyres on cars, they are lethal, anyone who perpetrates such a crime should also face rough justice. there is no excuse every town has a kwik fit.
I personally think that YES they should bring it back. DNA is so advanced that the same mistakes should never happen again. I'm not talking armed robbery or the such. Serial killers and peado's definitely

dot.hawkes....go to bed and sleep it off.Its been a long night (obviously)
Question Author
ummmm....i'm inclined to agree with you
And people who post complex and in depth questions in the midnight hour on a Friday night, they are the worst, no compassion, failing to provide adequate research sources, no justification for addling our brains, they should be ostracised and made to repent at their leisure.
Thanks Redbel - I will sleep more soundly tonight ! Dot - agree with the dog owners who let their dogs..... God I hate that. Makes me gag . But what are worse; those that pick it up with inverted plastic bags while it is still warm. AAAAAAAAAgggh. They should be hanged for even wanting to do that. (although it clears it up, I know ).

L.O.L. dot....im off to bed anyway to repent and be ostracised...........Will catch up in the morning.
I wonder how a child victim would feel in later years knowing the attacker has been killed for the crime?

Many child victims of abuse how lifelong feelings of guilt that are crippling to their mental health. Yes, I know they shouldn't, but sadly many do.
Would the knowledge that the perpetrator has died help the victim, or compound the complex guilt feelings?

Why should convicted paedophiles be freed? I honestly believe that they should be kept locked up in a secure unit for life.
Time and again it has been shown that paedophiles have that 'attraction' for their lifetime - they cannot be cured. The best that can be hoped is that they acknowledge their feelings are wrong and don't act on them.

Drug addicts, however, can be cured.

It's not a simple question, with no black and white answer.

Just for the hell of it. If a criminal was killed for his crimes. Would it not make the child realise just how bad the crime was?

Guilt or no guilt. They know exactly how bad it is because the guilty have been snuffed.

Surely they would find a tiny bit of comfort in this?

Before you ask, yes I have been there and yes I would have been happy to see him die. And I'm talking 20 years later
Brave admission uuuuuumm.
I would see anyone die who did anything inappropriate to my children.
and you also have to think what it must be like to grow up knowing that the monster who ruined your life could one day stand before you again and bring your world crashingdown, no chance of that if the offender has been erased.
pity i didn't have the bottle 22 years ago
The death penalty is no deterrant. People who commit crimes do not think they will get caught.

Do you think that a murderer wants to spend the rest of his life in prison (how ever laughable that statement is !!!)......no he doesn't and he commits murder because he doesn't think he will spend his life behind bars.

There's been lots of talk about child or police killers going to the gallows....but who puts a child or cops life above anyone else...my nan, your sister, someones wife. Everyone's life is as valuable as everyone elses....it's just that it tugs on the heartstrings a bit more when its a child.

Personally, i'd like to see the human rights act abolished. We need to make prisons places that are feared. No sky TV, no music, no posh meals, no snooker.....just four walls and a bed.
There should be hard labour and the bear minimum of food just to keep them going.

And when someone is sentenced to 5 or 10 years, they will do 5 or 10 years to the day.
hammerman, I agree with you about hard labour and making jails much harder on the criminals. I know that those who have been in jail will say it is already very hard. But is it hard enough to deter people from committing crimes? I don't think so! I do think though that those who physically harm others should be treated far more harshly than those who have 'only' caused material damage. Nox lumos has in many threads shown that some people who have committed crimes in the past can change and I do have great respect for him because of that. But still, when it comes to crimes of violence, I think the sentencing should be far harder than it is today.

Ummmm, look how strong you are! !! (big hug!) I know how hard admitting to having been a victim of paedophilia is. And yes, it does often take many years to find that strength. I wish I had been able to tell my parents as a child, but never did until I was dying of cancer at the age of 38. As you can see I made it though all that. Now in my 50s I am a very happy and positive person. But the nightmare still haunts me every so often. It is a life sentence and I think this is what the paedophiles should get, but in bare cells with no comforts at all and doing hard labour during the day! And a life sentence should mean life - should mean to the end of their life! Instead these vile paedophiles are given more luxurious accommodation than anyone else in prison! WHY??? They are the lowest of the low and should be treated accordingly! But would I want the death sentence for them? No, that is too quick!
