I watched this last night and really enjoyed it however felt I couldnt fully sympathise with the cowboys due to feeling sorry for the Michelle Williams character. I realise they didnt have much option in those times than to get married and pretend they were straight..just wondered if anyone else felt the same as me ?

havent seen the film myself - however a few people have discussed it - and some were disgusted at the fact that it was about 2 gay men - NOT my views but theirs. Others who have seen it, who have a more ``open mind`` about things in general said that it was a really great film and quite touching.

I saw it on Saturday and i didnt really like it. I have no problem with the subject matter ( i wouldnt have paid to see it if i had) but i just wasn't convinced about the connection between them until the end when he found his jacket.

I thought the acting was superb espec Heath Ledger, being the hard cowboy but having to pretend to be straight as you say but i just didnt feel the chemistry between them

I expected there to be more of a closeness and bond between them before what happended in the tent (dont want to give anything away to people that havent seen it)

I saw it a while ago. I did feel a little sorry for her but she could've left him at the time and didn't. I was quite shocked about the tent thing because i did think it came out of nowhere a bit.

Thats what i thought fideldyfee, i thought they might have had a few 'moments' first.
im not old fashioned or anything and don't have anything against homosexuals but when it got to that bit i was really shocked and everyone in the cinema sort of gasped and you could tell everyone was a bit taken aback. did anyone else feel like that?
I think it was just because it was so fast, perhaps if they had both known they were homosexual it wouldnt have been such a shock, but it happened so quick i didnt quite believe. That set the tone for the rest of the film to me

aliflump - I agree totally - I saw it last week with my gf, and we both came away thinking that the tent scene was plonked in the middle of it to give it a defining moment, with no believeable prelude to it.

I'm sure those who can 'read' a film better than I can could explain this better, but I thought it was a bit of a poor effort in an otherwise good movie - as others have said, Heath Ledger's tortured-macho-cowboy-unable-to-come-to-terms-with-real-feelings acting was first rate, well worth the many plaudits he has received.

Not many car chases in it though were there?!?! ;-) I jest - it was a refreshing change to usual Hollywood gloss/action movies down my local multiplex. I felt truly sorry for Ennis's wife - which must be some measure of how well it was acted, that I felt for someone in a movie as if they were a real person, hard faced cynical g!t that I am!
