Lousy Voiceovers

I do enjoy nice voices, men and women, and grating ones really bug me.

I am trying to enjoy reruns of 'Call The Baliffs', but I have to grit my teeth when the voiceover comes in.

Actor Paul Barber talks so slowly, it's like he's talking to someone who speaks English as a third language!

I think the programme makers can assume basic English on the part of their audience, so why not have their programme voiced by someone who can speak properly.

Things like thus bug me, but I'm probably in the minority.

Any thoughts?

Nobody has ever got my accent right and I used to get asked a lot.

I've lived in th North, Midlands and South and South East areas of England. Wales also for a while in my teens.

I had a cut glass accent after a few years at a posh boarding school but when I went home at weekends the locals took the proverbial out of me. Once I left that school my accent gradually changed againandagainand again as I moved aroud the country.  As I said nobody gets it right because it's MY accent.

My mother said to me one day,"Don't ever go to India for a holiday".  🤐

Sorry about the bad spelling!

Andy, I'd rather blow my brains out than go on a cruise, luxury or otherwise.

Have you never done a podcast?  I'm sure you've done radio interviews

The gold advert really irks me, the guy at the end goes up a couple of octaves trying to make it sound exciting, and clearly dubbed voices in adverts is pointless as well.

dropped Ts in the middle of words annoy me - Tommy Walsh in that Propery show!

Me too Dave.  I shout at the TV telling them off.  Makes no difference!

Fair enough, it's not fotr everyone.

Never done a podcast, but yes, dozens of radio interviews, not sure if any of them are out there to find or not.

Tilly - // Are you not on the radio anywhere, Andy? //

Not these days, sadly.

Used to be on every Sunday on local radio with Bruno Brookes,  before he went to Radio One.

Barsel; I was referring to "arksed", not "arsked"

BTW are you pronounced "basil"?

Barry, I have loved our river cruises where there have been very few passengers and no real  entertainment.  The one from Moscow to StPetersburg was the best.  We were the onlyBrits aboard and I was grateful for my personsal Russian interpreter!

Only been on one sea cruise on a small ship to Norway one Easter .  That was great

I would avoid those awful cruise ships with thousands on board.  I'd rather not have a holiday at all?

So cruises can be good!

I said I love posh voices, but can't stand Joanna Lumleys voice or her bad acting.  She gets turned off!

It depends which line you sail with.

Disney are all 'party ships', and I would not travel on those.

Cunard are very nice, upmarket, genteel atmospheres, no 'partying', very nice.

P & O - been on all their ships except Iona - are similarly very nice, again no crazy behaviour, good entertainment, plenty to do on board, or not, as you choose.

There are other really top-end luxury lines, and as I say, your choice depends on what you like, and what you want to pay, but to lump all lines in as '18-30 holidays' on the water is inaccurate.

I am the opposite, I think she has a wonderful voice, but as with everything, choices are very individual.

More than five seconds of either Michael McIntyre or Miranda Hart, and I get the uncontrollable urge to break something.

I left london at 15 but have basically kept my bbc voice, which is accentless, well so I thought until someone guessed correcty I came from Wimbledon.

I'll always remember my son telling me when he was about 6 that when I spoke on the telephone on business type calls my voice changed and I sounded like the Queen.  Oh dear!!

I like a good variety of accents,  but can't stand Glaswegian, Liverpudlian, or female Jordy voices.

Again we differ - I love female Geordie voices - I like listening to Sarah Millican, but not really her comedy, which is a bit too 'real' for my taste.

The combination of looking at, and listening to Cherryl Cole makes me all unessessary!!

I'm originally from Saaafind, but now I am told I have no accent at all but if I go back to Essex then It doesn't take long before I'm talking like them again!

Andy, I just don't like holidays where there are crowds of people.  Those large cruise ship type holidays just dont appeal in anyway.  There is nothing that appeals to us.  We are now country bumpkins who like peace and quiet.

I do understand that there are different classes of cruise ships, but none of them appeal.

What I wouldn't mind is Island hopping in Greece with a flotilla of yachts holding about 6/8 passengers.  But my days of holidaying are over.  We both worked for airlines in our younger days and back then we got free flights and free holidays and made the most of it.  It doesn't happen nowadays!

Excuse me AH just need to give CL a nudge.

Lottie have you seen my response to you on my Kinde thread?
