The first episode of this four-part series will air on Monday 9 October on BBC One.   When news of this account of his life was first published I said I wouldn't watch but I think I will - if I can stand it.  How about you?

Well I just watched the first episode.

What an extraordinary performance by Steve Coogan

I agree - and absolutely chilling. What a horror.

I watched the first part.  I think that Steve coogan is an excellent actor but I don't think I will watch any more.  The story is absolutely revolting.    It's unbelievable that anyone could be so awful,  and I remember watching him on tv.    I never liked him

Jimmy saville should be forgotten about

Most of the shots of scarborough, weren't scarborough.

There is no way I could ever watch it, I never liked him and I find the whole thing revolting, as others have said he shouldn't be given any further mention

How do we know that "the duchess" was so suspicious of him?

Didn't Gemma Jones once play the "Duchess" of Duke Street?

For the life of me, I cannot understand why anyone would want to watch this.

And yet you've recorded 'The Long Shadow' (another true story based on a person evil incarnate) and you're "looking forward to it." You must have a sliding scale of heinous behaviour, Maydup - what is it, anything above an '8' and you won't watch?

I've watched the first 2 episodes and will watch the remaining episodes.

I will watch it, not as enjoyment, but to see if the BBC are willing to take a little responsibility for what happened.

Dave50, i think most of the seaside scenes were filmed at a remote beach in Wales.

Ken, I think Savile's crimes were of a different order of repulsiveness than Sutcliffe's.

That's disappointing, because otherwise it's the BBC making money out of their cover-up. I will watch it on iPlayer and see for myself.

Good point Ken. I did watch Long Shadow and I did enjoy it. The difference for me is that Long Shadow was about the detective work and the hunt for a serial killer, and less about the man himself where as The Reckoning is a re-enactment of the life and behaviour of a sexual predator. Worst still, a celebrity and one who was never brought to justice. I just can't face it.

I had to turn it off after half hour. Steve Coogan is astonishing. And that makes it so hard to watch, it's almost as if it's a documentary rather than a drama.

There can be few surprises in the programme. Why would anyone who knows they'll be upset by it put themself through it?

It'll be nice also to get comments from people who actually watch it. It is a sort of drama documentary of course, as most of it is reconstructed from real incidents. And it does have real victims' testimonies in parts.

dave50 @ 23.04:

"Most of the shots of scarborough, weren't Scarborough"

And Ken says they were shot on a remote beach in Wales. Actually, it wasn't that remote. It was Llandudno. No question. You can see the Little Orme in the background when he's jogging along the promenade.

I wonder why it wasn't shot in Scarborough, I know where he lived and it was nothing like that was shown.
