I went for a hygienist appointment this morning and my teeth feel nice and clean now.

Luckily I've never had a fear of the dentist. How do you feel about going to the dentist?

On the whole, I’d rather be in Philadelphia. I once had a dental appointment at 2.30….most appropriate…..tooth.hurty.
I believe that anyone with the potential to be a dentist should be identified and put down at birth.

(Erm, do you get the impression, by any chance, that I'm not exactly a great fan of NHS-funded sadists?).

My last 'regular' check-up was half a century ago and I'm not rushing to have another one at any time soon!
I normally fall asleep in the chair and they have to put a block in my mouth to keep it open, my last visit I started snoring and the dental student had to wake me up.
I used to have such a phobia that I had to be tranquilised just to get me in the building, never mind up the stairs, into the surgery and sitting in the chair!

Then one day, about twenty-five years ago, I had an appointment booked when my wife called and said she needed me to pick up our youngest daughter from school, which meant I had to drive, so no tranqiliser for the dentist.

You do what you have to for your children, so I went without my medication, had my treatment, and have not needed it since.
My last appointment was at 2.30! Not my favourite thing to do but I don’t fear a visit.
That's the dentists favourite time. 2:30
It's never bothered me at all - as a teenager/twentysomething I much preferred the dentist visit to the barbers.
hate it thanks to barbaric dentist when young ,they actually have it written on my notes ,i go every 6 months and shake the whole time x
Fortunately, my teeth are good for my age but I didn't relish dentist visits until my new dentist arrived on the scene. Lying back, staring into those beautiful brown eyes.....even an older lady can dream!
I'm OK with going to the dentist, but I feel a lot poorer when I leave. It's impossible to get an NHS dentist dentist now, and they are not much cheaper.
Petrified! I have had trouble with my teeth since childhood but always visited the dentist whenever my mother made the appointments. Unfortnately, a visit to the dentist has become my one and only true only true phobia and one that has left me with a mouthful of sharp stumps, gaps and unable to eat certain foodstuffs. I am ever hopeful that i will one day 'man up' enough to visit the devil, er... i mean the dentist who will most likely recommend me to hospital to remove many of the stumps (my gums would have to be cut, i believe) to be replaced by dentures.
I wish I'd had good dental care when I was young. I think most kids today are much better treated.
There's little point since the arrival of covid. A cursory inspection and out you go, no more checking for mouth cancers and forward planning.

Seems like money for old rope, like GPs.
Don't find visit to dentist something which scares me now but, many moons ago, drilling was terrifying - our dentist was referred to as "the horse dentist" and drilling resembled that done by workmen in the street! Scary!
douglas @ 14.45...not our experience at all. Things have been back to normal for nearly a year. We've both had "normal service" as far as check-ups and treatment (and the same goes for our GPs, too).

exactly the same as above. have had far too many bad experiences in childhood and teens - I will never get over my nervousness.

One of the worst was a dentist tried to drill into a wisdom tooth and drilled into the gum. I got his hand and "ucked" him - he walked out of the room with shame and came back into room and apologised. Complete barbaric dentistry years ago. Now it is great for the kids - any of the ones I know hardly have a filling. Horrendous horrendous horrendous and the hygienist feels like she is drilling holes when cleaning. ALL BAD! And at 4 I had to get a baby tooth out by a terrible dentist. Mum put me to bed and dad went up to see how I was and the pillow and bedclothes were literally covered in blood - no taxis then - he run me to the nearest hospital where I was stitched up.
Fine. No problem.
We use a private dentist and most procedures are painless....apart from paying the bill!!
ryzen all my visits have been private for a long time but I can't mentally get over what happened all those years ago.
