A fabulous film, and after enjoying another viewing last night, I did some net research about it -

Rod Steiger says that Anthony Hopkins stole Steiger's Police Chief Gilespie's accent (from In The Heat Of The Night) for Hanibal Lecter, and when you listen, they are identical.

there's been a remake in Welsh , it's called "Quiet Ewe"
Never heard of it. But I enjoy Countryfile, so may see if it is in my library to watch.

It's one of my favourite films and worthy of its Oscars. I've also read the book twice and although there is a lot of content left out, the film is still excellent.

I read recently that Jodie Foster got a lot of stick for her portrayal of Clarice Starling.
Best answer to Brian surely
Geordie version is better "Shurrup Ewes".
classic film, I can't order Chianti now without thinking of it!

Lber - // What Jodie Foster did so well was to basically play the straight man to both Anthony Hopkins and Ted Levine and she just laid back in the groove and still had enough presence to not get swallowed up by these wild, over the top characters. //

I think you do Ms Foster a mis-service here.

If memory serves, she only appeared in about five scenes with Anthony Hopkins, and one interactive scene with Ted Levine, if you don;t count the scene where she kills him.

The rest of her scenes develop her character and show her tenacity - I don;t think she is a foil at all in this film.
