paul muni's line from the very end of the 40's film "I was a fugitive from a chain gang" Muni, a ruined man on the run, emerges from a darkened doorway to confront the wealthy heiress he was to marry before his ruin and wrongful imprisonment she asks "How do you eat, how do you live?" The camera closes on his anguished eyes and he whispers "I steal!" Roll credits....Great!
