Question For The Legal Beagles, Compensation For Spending Too Long In Prison?

I have a mate who has just been found guilty in a crown court. He has done 11 months on remand, it's quite likely that his sentence will be less than that. Would he get compensation for the extra time he has spent in prison? If so would that be based on sentence or sentence less remission? Thanks.

He wouldn't have been entitled to compensation even if he'd been found not guilty.

I think that is a no

even if he were wrongly convicted he STILL may not get moolah - the men in whitehall make a decision case by case and saying no comment for example may cause them to say No

remand for 11 mnths is a big deal under the most recent Bail Act - designed to empty the prisons of bailees
