Did anybody see this programme which was shown one night this week. I've only just watched it on catchup.
Very distressing. The girls who make these false claims should be prosecuted and definitely named & shamed. It is disgraceful that these girls get away with ruining lives.

I agree with you Sharon. They could ruin an innocent man's life and destroy his family.
My poor nephew is going through this process at this moment. He and his mother are absolutely devastated.
His moms off work with severe stress. He’s all but destroyed. The police are taking absolutely ages to resolve this matter.
In a lot of ways rape is subjective. One party can truly believe they have been raped, the other equally believe they have had consensual sex.
Being found not guilty in court does not automatically mean the accuser was lying, only that the jury did not believe beyond reasonable doubt.
The scenario could arise where the jury found the accuser not guilty of perjury because the same standards have to be applied. That would be even more traumatic for the person found not guilty of rape, casting doubt on his innocence in the minds of many people.
If the person who reported rape retracted the statement before trial she could still be found not guilty of perjury. She could claim she retracted and said she was lying because she could not face the trauma of trial, she was frightened, pressured by her family, believed the police were treating her badly - any number of reasons.

Only the people who were there when it happened know the truth and even then everyone could believe their version of events.
Rape is a heinous crime that should be severely punished. Falsely claiming rape is equally heinous and should be treated equally as severely.

Proving both offences is not so clear cut.

I can well understand why so many men and women who report rape to the police retract their statements. I can think of fewer things more traumatic than giving evidence in court months or years after the trauma of being raped. It must be very tempting to 'just make it all stop'.

Equally it must be a living hell to be falsely accused of rape especially if everything else in the statement is true. It can be proved he was there, sex happened.
Either way, the man's reputation is tarnished, and either way it will stick.
in a similar vein, the programme on the Bristol so-called murderer, Christopher Jefferies, showed up the disgrace of the claims and the trial by media - the press paid accordingly but it left him heavily scarred. One could also argue that the girls hounding Prince Andrew are just gold-diggers....though Andrew has been a berk, numpty, whatever descriptor you use, unless he had sex with them in the US Virgin Islands (sic) or Florida then he hasn't committed a crime.
Question Author
David Small, I really feel for your nephew and I know the police take ages.
In the programme, one of the men waited 2yrs to come before court. He was absolutely broken. Why the delay??? What on earth is the hold up??
Naming rape suspects (fishing expeditions) isn't right, IMO.

PP, what is a phone honky? What does a poof look like and is that really relevant?
// Why the delay??? What on earth is the hold up??//

there a huge police electronic thingey back log - one of two years

but the police officer said - there isnt anything
but there was

and also it is covered - what app - when you delete it goes into a delete box and not really deleted as in destroyed and not there

been almost there - - - half there
allegations of child molesting

My case: the completely taken in and believing policeman looked startled when I said - "we have been in court already over that and the judge said there as no case to answer. " [gast slowly but completely flabbered as the PC realised - - my accuser had not been ...... truthing].

No -I am afraid my accuser had "forgotten" that when she had a second go (better and more tearful a scream even, stifled sobs) and I said ' res judicata'

the judge - solomon - took about 5 s to decide asking for rent arrears was NOT child molesting. - she um didnt learn you know. I was not allowed cross examine as the judge had gleaned my accuser had been in three places at the same time. - her explanations of that were ingenious but - - - unconvincing
I believe rape/assault accusations are almost an occupational hazard for landlords.
Christopher Jeffries has been mentioned. Remember his dissatisfied tenants crawling out of the woodwork with all those lurid tales about him.
Personally, I didn't believe them for a moment. Getting evicted can have a negative effect on people. + newspapers pay more for dirt.
no idea why it was shot ( the post)

.......is married to Alison and has two children, Lawrence and Francesca.[4] He was the subject of a newspaper article in The Mirror on Jan 7th 1997 which 'outed' him as bisexual, having a long-term affair with another man, Paul Stone.

anyway keep strong David
