Apparently, deeply religious World Boxing Champion, Tyson Fury, has thanked Jesus for his boxing skills. Which has prompted Jeremy Vine (Radio 2) to ask the question, "Would Jesus have approved of boxing?". Don't normally listen to his show but i'm looking forward to the last half hour of today's.
Wonder if he means Man City striker, Jesus? :-)

Well boxing day is just after his birthday, and he's good to have in your corner.
There was a woman who phoned the programme, a born again christian, who said it's OK if the boxer is a christian. So if you're a christian it's OK to knock seven bells out of somebody but I presume if you're not a christian it's wrong. Doesn't say much for Christianity does it?

wasn't jesus a goalie? (Jesus saves, etc)
it's all voluntary, and there's nothing in the 10 Commandments saying "though shalt not floor thy opponent in the third round". So I don't see any barrier to him going to Heaven.

I only listened to the two vicars who were on at the start; one totally against boxing, the other helps run a boxing club. I honestly believe if they had been together in the studio, they would have come to blows:[-))
I remember Henry Cooper standing in an East End boxing club full of youngsters, saying 'None of these lads will you ever find out on the streets mugging old ladies'

That, Khandro, was more or less one of the arguments put across by the guy who helped run the boxing club.
Didn't Jesus trash the moneylenders' stalls? Bit violent! Maybe he punched a few as well, but that bit didn't make it into the Bible...

Mushroom; "Jesus saves." Bet he hasn't kept as many clean sheets as Nick Pope :-)
David Slew Goliath

Some times a bit of force is required
Question Author
Not only that Baz, but he was celebrated and feted for doing so in much the same way as Fury has been.
yes but David and Goliath predate Jesus.
yeah - but Jesus was God manifested in human flesh and God has always been around
I am surprised anybody listens to Jeremy Vine's programme or what he has too say.
