Letter count would help please
"Royal Consort" is usually Albert, so Albert gets A might be Alberta. However, that's a province not a state, and I can't figure out where "crowd" fits in...
camilla if CA + Mill for crowd (?) + A?
C(A MILL) A?
Does a crowd mill around? Can they be synonyms?

Private Eye

Many thanks. Apologies, it's 7 letters. I'm new here, not that it's a decent excuse.

_A_I_E_ is what I have. I like the logic of Camilla, although I think my other letters are right. I started with Alberta, too, but of course it fails on the state as well as the rest.
Camilla parses perfectly. A Mill (crowd) in CA (California). What is the clue which gives you the E?
Question Author
I agree and have had another look at that errant E. I had it as the 7th letter from 'Reluctant car crash victim's listed'. I fear I have erred.
Question Author
Sorry, that was a, 11 letter word, starting D_S_N___TED
Disinflated is the best I can do with your pattern.
disinclined?
"Reluctant car crash victim's listed" - DISINCLINED - Di(ana)'s inclined
Ah, a wrong letter given - well done
Di's (Princess Diana- car crash victim) inclined (listed).
Seems a bit uneccesary to bring Diana into into
Puzzle No. 615, Private Eye
Not a clue in the very best of taste, I feel.
Well done, F-F - I'd never have got that... ;-)
Question Author
Thank you! I have to apologise again, this time for misreading my N for a T. That incompetence contributed greatly to the whole failure.

Many thanks to all.
