I want to record something on Sky that's not on for 2 weeks but the planner doesn't go any further than 7 days. Surely that can't be right ? (I'll be away)

'Fraid it is, Prudie.

The way I get round it is to do a "Manual" recording for the time the programme is on, set it for the week before and set it to be repeated weekly. This means you get whatever is on the week before but you can simply delete that.
That's inspirational, NJ!!

Well you surprise me! trouble is I want University Challenge, the 2 semi-finals are on 29th and 30th and final on 31st December. How do you do a manual setting? The planner seems to be based on programme titles rather than exact timings.
Could you not do a remote setting whilst you're away? Might be something worth considering if you have internet available.
If you are in the UK or Ireland you can do it remotely.

Well I didn't know that was available so thanks. Unfortunately I'll be abroad.
Can you not use 'Series Link'?
You could get them on Catch Up or On Demand when you get home??
You can still do remote recording when you're abroad. I've done it from USA. All you're doing is logging into you're sky account and setting a programme.

Dave because there are some Xmas specials on every day at different times it won't do a series link. I've tried. Oh well I'll have to do as Chrissa says and get it on catch-up. Actually that's just the same as recording really.
The Manual Recording option is on the very top menu on the TV Guide, Prudie. It’s about 5 to the right next to “Parental Control”. Unfortunately it too only allows you to set up to seven days in advance, but you can use the “repeat” option as I said. To record on 29/30/31 you will have to set a programme for the same time and channel on 22/23/24 and repeat them weekly. Don't forget to allow a few minutes either side of the advertised times.

Have you considered using the “series repeat” option (assuming UC is on no more than seven days before you go away).
Sorry sunny-d your answer was not there as I was typing (and watching the telly).
Get the Sky app on your phone then record it at the time it's on
surely you turn off everything electrical at the switch when you go away.
Then how do you record your TV programmes, keep your food cool in the fridge and frozen in the freezer, keep your burglar alarm on, set your lights to come on after dark to make the burglars think you're in when you're actually in the Caribbean, keep your boiler running so that it can come on for half an hour in the night to stop your pipes freezing etc. etc ???
Prudie, as said earlier, You could get them on Catch Up or On Demand when you get home, and not have any worries.

Do houses still get frozen pipes, I haven't had one in 30/40 odd years?
Assuming you have access to the internet while you're away, when you get to within 7 days of the programme being on, log on to sky.com on the internet. Click on "Find & Watch TV", then click on TV Guide. That will give you a screenful of programme listings - channels on the left, 7 days at the top with times below. Click on the relevant day and find the programme you want (obviously you'll have to scroll down the screen and possibly scroll right). Click on the programme. On the pop up, hover over the word "record" and you'll get an option to record once or record series. Click whichever you want. Done. Simple. You can practice while you're at home. If you have 2 sky boxes, you need to make sure it records to the right box.
angie55, I don't think that works while she's abroad.
hc4361 - I've done remote record whilst in USA and Australia.
“Do houses still get frozen pipes, I haven't had one in 30/40 odd years?”

Must be Global Warming!!! :-)

Their website doesn’t work, angie. Just tried it. Got a nice blank blue screen with “Now” “Today” “Friday” “Saturday” etc. across the top and that’s it. Only one programme visible (“Tipping Point” – on now). Did manage to record that as you suggested so it’s a great idea. It just doesn’t work. None of the days across the top seem to do anything.

That was from my laptop. Tried accessing via my tablet. Click on “Find & Watch TV”. Just get a selection of rubbish for options (e.g. “Fungus the Bogeyman”; “Trollied A Christmas Carol”). No options to see a programme schedule.
