An apology: Sorry I missed last week's Bake Off Thread. I will submit to whatever punishment suggested by the eager baking crowd...

... but not before watching episode 4 of GBBO!

This week they tackle desserts. They'll have to multi-task several of their skills at once with the show-stopper being the cake which Sarah Palin can see from her house: Baked Alaska.

They're also on pudding and tiramisu duty!

It's been a long day:

Also, I heard a rumour that someone is actually a professional baker in the comp. Any ideas who?

Also, it is probably time to start taking polls on who is going to get kicked out this week :) who do you reckon?

NOTICE TO GRUMPY PEOPLE: If you are posting here to complain about the Great British Bake Off being on again, how "boring" you find it, or to ask "what's the point" you will be suspended. This is fair warning. To be absolutely clear: we don't care what you think about GBBO :)

Martha defending Diana

Iain being apologetic
if it was in someone else's freezer, then they could have taken it to him and said use your own freezer.... Not just leave it on the side to melt.
Exactly, it's the only decent thing in the circumstances.
I felt really sorry for Iain, it was a mean thing to leave ice cream out of the freezer even for a minute in that heat - whether it was in the wrong freezer is neither here nor there. It could just have been pointed out politely - it's not as though the competitors are in separate rooms is it?
On the face of it I think Diana was bang out of order, but, I'd like to see the unedited version of events as I wonder if they'll tell a different story.

Either way, she's already getting an online mauling so I hope she has thick skin.
Sue Perkins is getting exasperated on Twitter:

Iain's Alaska was out of the freezer for 40 secs. That's it. No sabotage. 40 secs of normal temp would NOT be enough to reduce it to liquid
that's interesting, so it wasn't abandoned on the side to melt...
Team Iain

Sidebar - the only cute contestant is now out. Basically, I'm furious.
you must be joking - all i can think of is weirdy beardy hairs in the food :(
Jomlett, that makes more sense, I really couldn't imagine it had been left out for ages, deliberately, to ruin it, those ladies all seem better than that.
He was having trouble getting it frozen earlier, as others were too.
What a shame though..
'scuse, Ed - bednobs, how lovely to see you posting again. I hope all's well!
40 seconds or 40 minutes, it matters not a jot. When were they going to tell him? Diana "you have your own freezer don't you?" has gone down in my estimation tonight.
creative editing apparently
Great British Bake Off presenters fend off sabotage claims... via @guardian
Am loving this reaction (from the Guardian link):

"How can you take somebody's ice cream out of the freezer? Not only should she be eliminated for that, she should also be arrested," wrote Daz Gale

Lol, you've gotta love a bit of outrage on other peoples behalf.
Diana has left GBBO due to ill health. I'm presuming the episodes are filmed well in advance so it can't be because of the public backlash over Freezergate.
Shoot, I should have put spoiler alert, sorry.

I'll email ed and see if he can put one in.
It's a hell of a coincidence...but I'm not convinced by the reason...
