After reading all the hype about Aldi before Christmas, Mrs BT and I ventured in there.

We spoke to a customer who was denuding the shelves of their supply of filet steak. Curiously we asked him about its quality, he said he'd never tasted better for the price and let us have two pieces put of his trolly. We also bought two pieces of sirloin.

Well, the filet was as good as the other customer had said. Tonight we enjoyed the sirloin. I think they are the best steaks I've ever had from a supermarket.

Total cost of each meal, with trimmings, probably under £6, we would have happily paid around £20 in a restaurant for the same, probably considerably more in London.

Mrs BT looks after me well!

Hi, Blue...try their free range chicken....and if it's still there..the Black Forest Stollen.

So many good things at Aldi....I have a friend who won't go in there...only Waitrose for me dear.....plonker....xx
Are Aldi and Lidl the same? We don't have Aldi over here.
BT, if you are on FB 'like' the Aldi page and you will be informed of when he money off vouchers are in the various papers.
Psybbo - they are different. I don't get Lidl but maybe ours is too small to appreciate the brand fully.
Sis and I went to Lidl before christmas and came away with chocolate, champagne, frozen crab and lobster, gingerbread stollen and excellent frozen king prawns. I would beat up Aldi too but its too far away.
I'm not on facebook but Sherr tips us off when there is a voucher and I always use it.

I'm not as keen on Lidl though it's okay...x
i shop at Aldi every week. i love the store. whether on a tight budget or not its great value. no point being snobby about shops like aldi and lidl they may not have the variety of the larger supermarkets but i nearly always get what i want/need there. if not i go to local market. Filled a large trolley with food for christmas and it was only £50 i was amazed tbh.
Thanks sher, we have one across the road and am dipping my toe in, their blueberries are lovely and their red berry scones are good

So true, Lozzer...I can now get most of what I want from Aldi. I started going there years ago because they don't have muzac.....a few bits now from my farm shop and I can't remember when I last had to to go into a large supermarket.

auto correct isn't always wrong....☻☻
Aldi and Lidl were set up by brothers, who fell out. They're competitors. I love Aldi, we don't have a Lidl.
Some of Aldi's products have a best product Which Consumers 2013 stamp.
One of their soups - (tomato I think) - I forget to look out for it.
It was Voted Best Supermarket again in 2013.

We'll certainly be using it a lot more during 2014.

Strange how we perceive different things. I prefer Aldi to Lidl, and Sainsbury to Tesco.

I suppose the same happens with a lot of products, never been keen on Ford cars, prefer M & S to BHS, and I suppose I could go on. Just one of those things!
BT I prefer Sainsburys here, use M&S occasionally but with Lidl 50 metres away, milk, scones are a boon and as for that Nessie woman!!!
## Total cost of each meal, with trimmings, probably under £6, we would have happily paid around £20 in a restaurant for the same, ##

I would have thought its cheaper buying any steak at a supermarket compared to dining at a restaurant!

I cant compare as we don't Aldi or Lidl where I live.
