ok just wanted to know!! the bit in jerry maguire when she says you had me at hello what did she mean?? im having an ongoing arguement with my friend over this!

My take on it was that when tom cruise goes into the big speech explaining why he has come back for her and she was saying you had me at hello meaning that when he walked back in the door she would have taken him back.

Agree with Trionam. the first thing he said to her when he came in was 'hello'. She just meant that he didn't need to say anything else.

i agree with these two.  i would have said the same as her - i love that film too (but not as much as that bit in an officer and a gentleman.....)
I thought she meant when she said "you had me at hello" - the minute you said hello when I first meet you, I fell for you.  I thought she meant that?
I agree with the first answer- well, that's what I've always thought she meant anyway..
Did you know that Renee Zellweger just married American Country singer Kenny Chesney who wrote a song (before he even met her) called you had me at hello based on that line in the film.  So romantic.
This parodied in Team America, but she says something quite different!
what was the other side of the argument ducky (ie not the view point that we all think it is!)?

well i said what butter1 said and she kinda said something along the lines of what every1 else said!! guess i just lost that arguement!! tanks for the help though!!
