My friend is awaiting to hear about the result of an audition/ casting for a well paid commercial .
He told me he's on pencil?
What does this mean please ...

maybe (for no reason other than guesswork) because something written in pencil can be easily erased it means that he is a possible rather then a probable

I think bibblebub's suggestion is probably right- equivalent to 'pencilled in'

If you pencil something in then you are considering it but I have never heard it called on pencil.

It means the booking is not confirmed but to keep that date free incase its a yes....good luck
