I've always been a fan of manbags, a kind of cross between a rucksack, briefcase, (big) wallet: to be roughly equated - as the name suggests - with a masculine equivalent of a handbag. though for fans of "Friends", I'm not talking of something as huge as the one Joey once sported. Maybe half that size. Hopefully you get the picture. I always got away with carrying one while I was at uni, and it was "cool" ahem, but that's uni for you. but now... What do people think of the acceptability of such an rule-breaking item? Cool? Crap? only suitable for 18-24yr olds? Or a great thing?

I think they are ok...I mean you need something to carry your bits and bobs in.  I think sometimes as long as it's not too dodgy and you can keep it subtle you have to stuff what people think and do what you wanna do!

My husband's 40 and my son's 17. Both would die before using one of those bags, but I think it just depends on what kind of person you are. I have to say, both of them are quite reserved and 'safe' in the clothes they choose to wear, whereas I wear whatever I want because I like it, not because other people may not. I've seen plenty of blokes in suits carrying those bags and they look fine to me, ditto students. If it became more common, no one would bat an eyelid.
Just as long as you don't keep your purse in one!  LOL!
I'm 42 and on the point of buying a 'man bag'. I'm fed up with the age old situation of real men not being permitted to carry bags. When I go out these days, I want to carry wallet, Ipod, keys, camera, phone, notebook & pencil, leatherman, mini binoculars, handkerchief, sweets... That's quite a lot to go in the pockets of my jeans. Even if I won't be carrying makeup or feminine hygene products.

I also want a bag I can use in stead of a briefcase for work. It has to look right with a suit, but will mostly be used to carry my lunch box!

My only problem is deciding what type and colour is most masculine? I certainly want leather...
