The cost of gas is not as expensive as cost of oil - which some of us have no choice but to use.

No one is looking at the cost of home heating oil

My unit gas prices for next year are going up by 'only' 4% which is much less than the electricity prices (+20%) and gas/electricity standing charges (+25%) so the gas prices are not the main problem at present.
I don't think the government can do this yet but it needs to beef up the regulation significantly and set rules regarding how prices must be set out and reviewed so that there is more transparency to aid competition. I have a degree in Maths and maintain monthly records of consumption yet it has taken me a day using spreadsheets and various internet searches to work out the best deal for the next 12 months.
