I remember being told it as a kid - have a good cry and get it out, but does it really help?

Things are going rubbish at the mo, and I feel like I'm teetering...maybe a good old cry at a soppy film would help?

TIA x

Sure it does. But it doesn't solve the situation, just allows you to release the pressure for a bit and start to tackle the problems.

Best done in private though.
yes a really long session of sobbing crying results in the release of endorphins... natures pain killer ... so a soppy film wouldn't work as there is no pain involved mind you Titanic is pretty painful to watch that might do it
i usually cry at least once every day. It dosen't make me feel any better usually
I find a good cry makes me feel better for a while.
Yes. Especially if accompanied by wine and fags.

Seriously, I do think it can sometimes. I often have a crying 'sesh'. Does me the world of good.
I very rarely cry unless its in anger.... doesnt help none
you just end up with baggy eyes and a thumping headache
If I get the old photo albums out, now that sets me off. Esp, if like I said, it's accompanied by wine & fags (I only smoke when intoxicated - filthy habit, but it helps at the time).

Wassup HM?
Bednobs...endorphins are not going to touch your pain but crying is probably releasing a little of the pressure for you... there will be days and probably not that far away when you won't have cried but you won't realise at the time but you will look back and think yeah I think I'm doing ok... the sadness will change.. guess its still really raw right now.... and nothing any of us can say will make it feel any less...Nothing closes those holes in your life... you just learn to live without falling through them.
When I lost my beloved Grandma some years ago, I was a mess. I kept going over and over her death in my head and couldn't come to terms with it. Then suddenly one night the floodgates opened and I sobbed, cried, yelled until I couldn't any more. After that the healing started, so I would say yes, a good cry does you the world of good. It isn't the end, but it's the beginning of the end.

Thanks all for your kind words x

Steve - you sound just like my son :)

Old G - oh I'm good at bottling it up and doing it in private!

salla - it's been a rough few years - kids getting badly bullied, losing jobs, having depression, gynae problems, splitting from long-term partner, losing my hair and being abandoned (for the 2nd time) by my birth mother. To top it all, I was attacked on Sunday evening by a group of men.

sorry, you did ask! lol...think it'll be a bottle of Lidl Chenin Blanc and a sad film for me tonight.
Bl00dy hell HM - forget the sad film, that'll make it worse.
have a good cry by all means, but talking to someone you trust would be of more help to you.
Do you have a really good friend you can confide in?
I'm not asking for any details, but re the recent incident - have you seen your GP?
There's nothing like a good bubble to let it all out!
that's horrible :-( i agree with salla though a sad film won;t help. is their anyone you can talk to?

salla - thanks, but I don't have anyone - my adoptive parents both died when I was a kid and my adoptive brother and sister don't have any contact. I don't get on with my step-mother.

Friends are all (unfortunately) fair-weather.

I've not been to the GP as all that happened was two of the men held my arms and another gave me a dead leg (and I have asked Sqad about it!) so there's nothing the GP can do.

Sorry for being such a moaning old cow
Have a darned good howling wail. There sounds a lot of grief in there, loss of jobs, long term relationship and anger about Sunday.

Please see someone about Sunday. xx
that's assault though, have you reported it?

there's no point, it was so quick, i wouldn't recognise any of them - they all ran off and there weren't any witnesses.
