last night, i did and thought it was very good, but why didn't they make
it longer, say 6 episodes, as it was obvious from reading the blurb of the
book, they missed out an awful lot.

Question Author
anyone watch?
Those that watched it must be still catching up on their sleep. Is it available on iplayer?
Recorded for watching tonight/tomorrow. Looked good.
Watched the first 45 mins with the OH and gave up!!

Sorry but to spread it out even longer would have been a real sleeper as we both gave up with nothing happening
Question Author
Lots happened, but it should have been spread out at least 4 maybe 6 episodes, as it seems quite a complex and long story. The performances
were excellent, it too a little bit to get going, but i found it quite moving.
Must admit I fell asleep too..... but that was more to do with the bottle & a half of Sauvignon that I drank.
Question Author
I think it was an intelligent, interesting and sometime moving piece of drama
Yes it was acted very well. The girl who cut her hair short, was in another programme a few weeks back. Good actress.
Watched it. Story thin. Acting thinner.
eastender she was a new head teacher in a north country school drama wasn't she - David Morrisy (sp) was in it - he died in a riding accident and his young daughter was disturbed by her mother's death? Re: Night watch I'm not sure what I thought - obviously very heavy lesbian/homosexual content with no hetrosexual balance and as a story, quite interesting but as to the content, not sure - or have I missed something?
I watvhed it, and enjoyed it. I did think though that the writers made it seem that homosexuals and lesbians were the majority during that period of time. If they were, I don't feel they were openly so.
It was written 'specifically' about lesbian and characters......and the 'twilight world' they inhabited at that time.
Question Author
i think that the book its based on is much more complex, and don't think it did it justice by being a one off drama. Anna Maxwell Martin was also in
Bleak House, a while ago, which i thought excellent.
thanks J the H - didn't know that -
She was in South Riding which was the one where she was a schoolteacher
Question Author
Well i enjoyed it,
I recorded it to watch sometime soon.
However, they seem to have excised so much of the book that I can't help but feel that I'll be disappointed by it (they also changed one fundamental character, too, I believe :o().
Really JTH - where did it say that?
Question Author
JHT, that is what i said before, though i haven't read the book, i would like to, as i did read some of the reviews, and i am sure its far more complicated, complex, with well drawn characters. To do a one off drama seemed a bit of a waste
One of the characters who is a peripheral 'love interest' in the book is a woman who has a husband away fighting overseas.......

Perhaps I ought to write a letter to the DM expressing my outrage at the crow-barring of a heterosexual character into a lesbian story? :o)
