My husband runs a business and someone has just rung up (9.05 pm) to ask about having a stove installed - would a normal person do that?

They might have expected to get an answer machine.
Yes.
People ring up at the most inconvenient and antisocial times.
You're a business, you see, so have no rights or feelings.
I'm prone to ringing people up and saying "wow, you're actually there at this time!" so yes.. people do this.

I can't comment on the "normal" bit ;o)
i probably would if i had decided at that moment to have it done.
However, i would expect an answermachine and to leave a message
I meant yes people would ring up at 9:05. Not yes, I think it is a wind up. (Sorry, wine taken).
wait until Monday and check it out - presumeably you have an address etc
yes I think they would - personally I wouldn't, I tend to stick to office-ish hours for tradespeople, but I know lots of folk who would just call when they deemed it convenient.
or free time!
a normal person who wanted a stove installed would.

It sounded a bit like an idiot we know and they with held their number - the idiot in question would know that I don't like people phoning so late because of the children (he's part of the 'group' that I have been having some trouble with).
do they want it installed now?
Yes, why not, perfectly normal, dont frown on potential business.....
Just say that you are putting a bun in the oven.

What normal person wants advice about having a stove installed at 9 on a Saturday night though?
I think most people expect a business to be contactactable 24/7 these days.
Normal people are not supposed to ring up on a Sunday, or after 10pm at night. That is the rule of telephoning etiquette. Do any of you other ABers agree with me?
Someone who has been thinking about having a stove installed all day on Saturday and couldn't find the time to phone earlier...

This is not the main phone number for the business - the business number does have an answer machine.
Could be any number of reasons, they dont have much free time, they work shifts etc etc - did your husband discuss this with them or did you just leave the answer machine on ?
Yes - normal - your hubby will give quote?
