Ben-gay

In the script for the stageshow grease, there is a line where it says something like "then he smeared ben-gay all over the walls" (thats not exact, its been a wile since i was in it). what is ben-gay?

Ben-gay - a sports cream/ointment to relieve muscle pain etc. similar to Deep Heat.

But why? why would anyone smear that over the walls?
