Now that the Obama's visit is over, what were your feelings regarding the visit?

My own personal feelings were that there was far too much media hype over the visit, after all he is only another politician, he is not royalty, and would so much had been made of him if he had been a white president/

To see all our dignities squirming to shake his hand, Blair in particular with his fixed sickly smile on his face, was sicking in itself.

Even Michele Obama's visit to Oxford seemed to be a political correct exercise, judging by the way that she was surrounded by ethnic minority girls, one wouldn't think that she was in Oxford, England, judging by the lack of indigenous faces.

The lavish attention he received was a bit over the top. His praise far exceeded that which the pope received recently. As a neutral observer you can't help thinking that the US has been the aggressor in the last three major conflicts which British Prime Ministers also signed up to.

Maybe with Obama in charge the war like noises will reduce and we can get back to some form of sanity.
"His praise far exceeded that which the pope received recently."

I should hope so. Maybe that's because nobody's accused Obama of covering up for paedophiles?
Here in the U.S. we would have thought someone on the President's staff would have given guidance on proper protocol re: toasting the Queen while the National Anthem played... for me it was only one of the several gaffs suffered through by this President... No one man (or woman) can possibly know all the demands of a different culture, even one as only slightly dieffernt than ours... but some one of his many advisors should have in this case... in my opinion. That was a long, embarassing interim following the toast but before the anthem finished
<<she was surrounded by ethnic minority girls>>

<<Blair in particular with his fixed sickly smile on his face, was sicking (?!?) in itself. >>

Perhaps the highly intelligent and well educated First Lady wanted to be with other people who could speak and write the english language properly.
.
Yes Zeuhl. One would like to communicate at a much higher level than try & make contact with the knuckle dragging init brigade.;
he was well received here, Clanad, for what he is and the country he represents. I dare say the Lord High Grey Wand, Master of Protocol, got into a tizz over toasts; most people don't.

Incidentally, I was out your way this month: Arizona and New Mexico. Lovely land.

For fcuk sake - what is this thing that you have with Ethnicity ?

(sickening) how very, very clever of you to point out my typo mistake, all helps to divert from a sensitive issue.

If anyone had put "she was surrounded not by ethnic minority girls, but by indigenous girls".

And I was to give the reply, "Perhaps the highly intelligent and well educated First Lady wanted to be with other people who could speak and write the english ('English'), language properly.

This surely would have been construed as being racist, I wonder why this would be?
That argument is so convoluted, twisted and up its own orifice it has ceased to make any sense whatsoever.

Methinks someone needs their medication adjusting.
I was about to post some words of agreement until I read to the end and saw that it boiled down to yet another reference to "ethnic minorities".

Oh go on then..

I agree. Tony -grinninig idiot- Blair amongst many other leading politicians perpetuated the analogy that Bill Bailey beautifully pointed out underlining the fact that the 'powers that be' of this country have for years had their tongues firmly inserted into the back passage of Uncle Sam.

"I don't know why we hang around with America, it's embarrassing. It's like some nerdy kid hanging around with this lummocking great bully. America's like the bully of the world going round to other countries going GIVE US YOUR SWEETS OR I'LL SMASH YER FACE IN ! and Britain leans round the back and goes YEAAHHH !"

Did you not have the time to take the slightest notice of what that visit was about? Surely you couldn't have, or you would have realised that those alongside her in the photo weren't from Oxford but from London...
all i got fom it was blah blah blah relationship blah blah blah relationship blah blah blah relationship. from some of the many coverages you'd think the obamas and the windsors were practically wife swapping or summink.
Another opportunity for AOG to take a swipe at some for, in the main, having the audacity to be black.........and in a position of authority/power.

Tony Blair is an odious and sickening individual, always was, always will be.....but if the utter indifference of Obama's greeting to him didn't highlight his 'legacy' I don't know what will.

Michele Obama is a credit to her country, race and gender......and only bigoted old white men would genuinely think any different.
What a gaffe he made talking through the national anthem - although Prince Phillip seemed amused by it

Which is more than can be said for some, she is way out of your league.
I beg your pardon ?

The Old Git can be a bit of a bitch can't he? Even for an 'old woman' that's a very catty remark.

The district nurse must have left his underpants in a bunch this morning.

Can anyone answer these two questions.

1/ Why did he have two US Marine Corps guards of honour, and not two of our own troops?

2/ Why did both podiums have the British crest upon them and not one of the president's crest for Obama to stand behind, and the British one for Cameron to stand behind?
