Don't understand why Belgium is not first in using this vaccine, they have developed it and their needs are greater than ours! Have I missed something here?

Yes. What you've missed is that Belgium is in the EU and their authorities have not approved it for use. We are not in the EU and our authorities have.

Thanks NJ, I imagine their people are very unhappy with that! They have been against their gov from the start, I remember seeing all the hospital staff turning their backs on a visit.
I think the UK are rushing to be the first. I'm really baffled as to why they're rushing to implement it.

Possibly because the UK government's strategy is to continue to destroy vast swathes of the economy until a vaccine is widely administered. So the sooner the better.
The vaccine was approved by the UK's MHRA and earlier to-day, its chief executive said,

"We have been able to authorise the supply of this vaccine using provisions under European law which exist until 1 January.
Our speed, or our progress, has been totally dependent on the availability of data in our rolling review and the rigorous assessment and independent advice we have received."

As we are in the Transition Period, EU legislation applies to us still.

How can they tell the long term effects of the vaccine in 10 months? I think it's too soon and can't see many people quing up to take it.

Who knows why? I think that the media hype is over the top too, it will be a slow process, but people will be impatient, it will take many months to get around everyone. Everyone who will take it that is!
It arrives here tomorrow morning from Belgium. Hurrah I say, can't wait.
Good for you, LB!

Just seen this NJ. As you said!

No, Dagman. Brexit did not speed up the vaccine arriving in Britain. It is because you are still under European law as Corby has said. Please research it before jumping to wrong conclusions. Hancock is not being truthful.
I wouldn't be rushing into taking it.
Why hasn’t EU been able to evaluate the data as quickly as the UK?

Gness, pointing out BBC link showing NJ's view.
Okay. Maybe NJ needs to look closer. Anyway, have you completely recovered? I have wondered since you posted.

I'm good thanks, although do you mean heart attack or covid? I don't do things by halves :)
Hell’s bells, Dagman! I only knew about the COVID! When was the heart attack?
Question Author
July, when I was in hospital because of it, that's erm... where I got covid. I think nature was trying to bump me off!
Well you seem to have shown nature who's the boss! And all is well now?
Question Author
Feeling great now, really felt covid was the end of me yet not the heart attack! It was horrendous to say the least. Now I'm fit after having a stent fitted and angioplasty, exercising relentlessly, walking loads, lifting weights again (not bodybuilding tho). Total change of diet too. Miss sausages tho!
I guess a heart attack is a known to medics however scary for the patient. COVID being so new must have been terrifying for you too. Glad you’re fit and you sound good. Keep well and maybe a small sausage on Christmas Day?....x
