Why do you think out of the million orphans in Malawi, that Madonna chose one who isn't an orphan but has a father?

Fanatstic observation.
You have a good point.
Interesting.
true, but no one from his family had been to see him for the past 12 months.
i think she could have adopted a child from this country after all there just as many needing help here
Why is this such big news? Other celebs who adopt from overseas are allowed to get on with it but when Madge does it she is criticised.
Maybe one reason she didn't adopt here is because of her age? And, if people are shallow enough to choose overseas adoption over UK adoption just because they're copying Madonna then maybe the UK adoption services would doubt their motives anyway.
Also, regarding Madonna choosing an "orphan" with a father ... if he wasn't "available" then surely Madonna would not have been given the opportunity to choose him. We don't know the process. Maybe she visited the orphan and fell for him on sight. It must be very emotional and strange to pick your son from a lineup so let's support her not put barriers in her way. From all the negative press we hear about Madonna, has anyone ever read anything about her being a bad parent? Thought not.
just another publicity stunt
If I had her money I'd adopt at least 2 orphans. What she's doing isn't a publicity stunt, she doesn't need to prove anything to anyone, she's doing something completely unselfish and admirable
takes us back to the original point i think, the child she has adopted is not an orphan, which is why i think its a publicity stunt
I don't neccessarily have to agree with what Madonna (or countless other celebs) have done with regards to adopting, however I have to say that her new son was in an orphanage ~ therefore he was available for adoption.

The fact that the little boy has family doesn't come into it really. There are plenty of children up for adoption in this country (and others) who have family. In Madonna's case the boy has a father, but the mother died. In other cases the child/ren have both parents still alive ~ and quite often the father isn't married to the mother and has no choice but to agree with adoption. Isn't that worse?
As a side note, Madonna chose Davie in the same way that anyone who is adopting chooses a child. She felt something for him..which is a great start :o)
Re: the whole publicity stunt thing...

I think we should all remember something - Madonna is currently generating masses of newspaper column inches simply because she has released her best album in a decade, and she's been on an extremely successful world tour.

For someone in her current position to adopt a baby (which she will mother for the rest of her life) as a publicity stunt is...well, madness.

Think about it for a minute! Knowing how media savvy she is, do you really think she'd saddle herself with a child, for a few weeks of headlines?

She's not that stupid.
Well with the money she has, I personally think she could afford to build and fund an orphanage that could care for lots of underpriveliged children.
