I've noticed a lot of blue tinted front windscreens on cars - are they legal and a new fashion ?

You mean like a deep sunstrip?
Not legal if completely tinted over tinted glass.

About every third car I pass has the blue windscreen, coated with UVA (like sunglasses) reflection.
Are you wearing blue sunglasses yourself?
If as you say 33.3% of cars have it, it must be legal, I have never seen one though.
tambourine where do you live?

I live in London, drive evey day and I don't think i've seen one.
i think its the sun reflecting off some kind of coating.. I know what you mean.. but dont know what it is....
Its a UV/Heat reflective layer that is becoming more prevalent on moderns cars either as an optional extra or as standard fit. Don't think its noticable from inside.
