I am thinking of starting a small business.

It will involve designing, making and installing unique fixtures and fittings into peoples homes. I will also offer a general handy man service.

Does anbody know roughly how much personal liability insurance costs per year and what coverage i could expect for this type of work?

Thanks for your time.

I work for a large Insurance Broker, the premiums for Liability at the moment are excessive unfortunately, due to the "compensation culture"(thats the Insurance Company's excuse:-) - your best bet would be to have a look for a local insurance broker/consultant who could maybe arrange a liability package type cover at a flat premium - a company who provided a specialist type cover for this previously (and possibly still do ) is Axa.They have a tradesmans liability package .

Sorry I couldnt help more, but I would guess you are looking at at least several hundred pounds for cover - usual cover starts at around 2 million, but as you would be involved in design aswell this may need to be higher .

Sorry if this is stating the obvious, but perhaps your bank has a small business advisor who can assist you?
